Your question is not clear. Do you want to restrict users accessing websites until they fill the form? If yes, ASP.NET is not the obvious tool for that.

I am going to setup a host spot. So i want to limit there access to the internet until they fill the form. Then they get access to the internet. Its like when you go into a starbucks and have to pay for internt. I am just not going to charge just want to collet some info.
I guess you could call it a captive portal. Another example is when you go to a hotel and use there wifi. You have accept the aggremment then you can surf the web.
Thanks

Well, As I said, ASP.NET is not the correct tool for that. There will be third party applications out there and it is better to use them rather than reinventing the wheel.

Hi.
Do we have Template Engines in ASP.NET like Smarty in PHP ?
Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean, but masterpages allow you to design a part of your page that stays constant, and define areas that change for each page.

OK, let's explain more.
In PHP we can separate PHP code from HTML codes with a Template Engine.
With this ability we can change a website's template easily and without changing the PHP codes.
For example Smary[^] is a great PHP template engine.
We design HTML codes in some files and load them in PHP codes.

ASP.NET also has themes, but the HTML is already seperated from the code in ASP.NET, that's how it works. A well designed site, you should be able to restyle the ASPX files without having to touch the code behind.

How can I capture a single or double click on the heaer over a column in an ASP.NET Gridview?

You can define a header template, which means you can put controls in there, and thus subscribe to their events.

This is hard to understand. You should perhaps post some sample data to make sure we understand you. Are you asking how the UI should look, asking about the SQL, or what ?

Try to create a different application pool and change the Identity to Local System . Then asign the application pool to your site.

P.S: The folder on the server is a websharing folder and i canot access it from iis.

This is an IDE question. What do you do ? You need to select a section first, to comment or uncomment. I doubt it works in your ASPX.

I am currently working on a project that uses an ASP.NET handler that supplies the file path for a flash .SWF file which then gets played on the webpage. The handler uses an SQL database to get the file path information and I am using Querystrings to keep track of which video is being asked for. The Flash object simply uses the url to the asp.net handler instead of the url to the .swf file. This fires the handler and the actual flash .swf file is supplied and the video plays.
This is working just fine in Internet Explorer, but I am unable to get the file to load when using Firefox. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Anyone ever had to use a handler in this way, or have any ideas on why Firefox 3.0 is not rendering the movie when IE 8 is?

I did this recently, and I found that I needed to render the path to the movie twice in order for it to work in Safari as well as in IE. I'm not sure I tested Firefox, it could work the same as Safari.
My control to play video looks like this:
<div style="vertical-align:middle;text-align:center;width:100%;height:100%">
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="<%=Width%>" height="<%=Height %>" id="player">
<param name="movie" value="<%=Player %>" />
<param name="FlashVars" value="videos=<%=URL %>&userKey=<%=UserKey %>&videoIndex=<%=VideoIndex%>" />
<param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" />
<param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" />
<embed src="<%=Player%>" FlashVars="videos=<%=URL%>&userKey=<%=UserKey %>&videoIndex=<%=VideoIndex%>" width="<%=Width%>" height="<%=Height %>" name="player" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" />
</object>
</div>
The important bit is the URL property, it's the path to the video, and notice I set it twice.
So long as you set the MIME type right, there's no reason on earth for your handler to not work with Firefox, it won't even be able to tell that there's a handler involved.

Thank you for the info. I compared what you posted with what I had and I did manage to get it working in FireFox after a bit of head scratching. For some reason the URL path was being rendered twice in the same attribute and giving me what basically amounted to a link within a link. I fixed that problem and now the flash vids are playing.
Thank you for the help!

Hi,
I have an asp.net page that need to show a progress bar. Progress bar is used to show progress of another windows service. The winservice writes its progress to a database table and based on that progress value i need to show progress bar in an asp.net page. I have made the page , but http being stateless shows only the first value. One way around would be to use a timer tick event. but i am not sure if thats a good solution.
Please provide with an idea on how to solve this problem or may be a good link would be good enough.
Thanx in advance.

I imagine some Ajax control can do this but it's still fundamentally the same thing. There is no getting around it because push does not exist so all you can do is pull-poll.
