Debug/Start instance starts the app as described in my previous msg, but does not work.
I opened server explorer in visual studio 2008, and expanded 'services' tab. It does not show WCF service running. How do I make this service run?
Thank You.

You have TWO APPS to start.

Ok. I started both apps in debugger and logged in. Now it is working, and shows the msgs that two users sent through chat. But, it does not show the text box where msg is being typed, looks like the screen is incomplete. I checked the code on Chatroom.xaml. It does have a textbox named TxtMessage, which looks like the place where user types in a msg.
<TextBox x:Name="TxtMessage" TextWrapping="Wrap" KeyDown="TxtMessage_KeyDown"
ScrollViewer.VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Visible"
ScrollViewer.HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Disabled"
Width="360"
BorderThickness="2" Margin="0,0,10,0"/>
But, this text box is not seen when I start the app and login. I logged in as two different users from two different browser windows. Both could pass msgs, but could not see the text box where msg was being typed.
Thank you. Greatly appreciate your help.

TxtMessage is the TextBox where messages are typed.
How were you able to pass messages without seeing the textbox?

I did not see the textbox, but just typed something and pressed 'enter'. It appeared in the msg box above.

What browser are you using. I tried on IE8.0 where it shows msg box, loggedin people, but no textbox where msg is typed.
But, if I launch it using Firefox3.0.11, the page is completely blank.

I see a blank page when I launch the web app, which as far as I can tell
from a quick look at Chatroom.aspx (the default page), shouldn't be blank.
So instead of debugging that, I just (on the blank page) change "Chatroom.aspx"
to "Silverlight2ChatTestPage.html" and that one shows the silverlight app.

In Chatroom.aspx, change the body to this
<body style="height:100%;margin:0;">
<form id="form2" runat="server" style="height:100%;">
<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server"></asp:ScriptManager>
<div style="height:100%;">
<asp:Silverlight ID="Silverlight1" runat="server" Source="~/ClientBin/Silverlight2Chat.xap" MinimumVersion="2.0.31005.0" Width="100%" Height="100%" />
</div>
</form>
</body>
and it shows up like it should.

While it's great that you got help from Mark, you really should have posted this on the forum for that article. You don't post article questions in the general forums, because you are going to cause problems for other people who have the same issue with this application. If the questions and solution were in the forum for that app, then others could see how it's been resolved - now, they are on their own; not knowing that this issue has been solved already, and it's not an intuitive step to go searching the other message boards looking for a solution.
In future, if you've got a problem with an article, post your questions with that article and give the author a chance to get to know what problems they have.

I saw the discussion link on that article and it has a question where user says 'can not have it running' but no one answered it. So I tried this forum and got help. Will remember your suggestion next time. Thanks to Mark for helping me.

hi ...
with reference to my other question of moving dynamically created rows up and down, i have to copy the values of the selected row into a another dummy row and later that into the grid ,..
else
is there any way i can insert a new empty row and copy a row and later delete it... i guess its confusing let me explain.....
>row1 consists of lots of controls like textbox,checkbox etc
>[up] is a button
> [down] is a button
------------row1----- [up]----[down]---------
-------------row2------[up]----[down]---------
-------------row3------[up]----[down]---------
please consider these three rows as the rows of the grid, now if i want to move the row3 up,i insert a new row between row1 and row2
-------------row1----- [up]----[down]---------
-------------NEW ROW-- [up]----[down]---------
-------------row2------[up]----[down]---------
-------------row3------[up]----[down]---------
then copy the values of row3 into the new row.....
------------row1----- [up]----[down]---------
------------row3----- [up]----[down]---------
------------row2----- [up]----[down]---------
------------row3----- [up]----[down]---------
then delete the third row...
------------row1----- [up]----[down]---------
------------row3----- [up]----[down]---------
------------row2----- [up]----[down]---------
i dont even know if it is possible.... i would be more than grateful if someone can help me out!!! im very new to WPF
hey thanks a lot in advance....

The best way to modify your rows, is to use an ObservableCollection and to modify the data source.

Hmmmm..... i tried out observablecollection....
it does work (sort off).... i mean the row move up and down... but only in the view.... as i have been using indexs to point out a single row, and if i move the first row to the grid to the second line the [up] button of the previously first row that had been disabled (the up button of the first row and down button of the last row are disabled) stays disabled....
so i land up in the great index mess where now my row2 which is on the top has both its up and down buttons enabled and my row1 has no up button!!!!
hope i didnt confuse u..... please help me out....

Please let me know are you using any itemsource for grid or doing through code behind can you explain XAML part of Grid:
Ex:
Controls1:XamDatagrid x:Name="LstCompRelationship" ItemSource="{Binding ContactJobFunctions}"
then it would be easy to give answer accordingly.

Hi,
It is possible to have a common class for two windows? i.e is it possible to have the event handling code common for both the windows as my windows are almost alike.
Thanks

If you follow a pattern such as MVVM, this becomes remarkably trivial. Take a look at my article here[^] for code that behaves in just this way.

Hi,
I am student working on a project for making a neural network simulator in IIT Bombay.
I have to create an application which takes in data from a windows form and then creates a network. The network is depicted in terms of spheres and links between them. Basically a neural network. To take in the 3D objects and making it move according to camera is possible in Expression Blend. But i have to take in the input from the windows form. i.e. i want the alter the network design by user input.If the user adds a unit a sphere is created on the screen(the network window). Can any one please suggest me if its possible and if yes how can i merge the 2 applications???

A simple way to do this is have a class that contains the properties that you want updating, and then expose this as a property in your window. Assuming you're using binding, all you need to do then is update your main window model with the values in this class (assuming you're implementing INotifyPropertyChanged to notify that the property is updated, and hence trigger a refresh).

OK - if it's an observable collection, then you can just swap the items in the collection and the control will update itself. Otherwise, I guess you need to copy a whole row, or swap values between rows.
and like I said in the C# forum, this is a programming forum, not a meeting place for punk rap wannabes. We don't mind people who struggle with English, but 'dat' is not a word, nor is 'herez' or 'n'. n is a letter. You have a full keyboard, so use it.
