hello,
does anyone know how to get rid of the request timeout message using the
OpenUrl function of the internet transfer control object in Visual C++?
Or is there a sample out there on how to use the Execute function of the
same object. Is there a different component that I can use instead that would transfer an html document into a string and viceversa.
thanks,
herbert

In my program I need to give the user an option of printing many different kinds of files by loading the default application associated with a file type (as VC++ would load when you double click on a .cpp file) and passing "/p < filename >" as a parameter to print.
Is there some kind of shell function that I can use to retrieve the application path associated with a file type?
Thanks for any help you guys can give!

But not all applications will print a document by passing it "/p filename" arguments.

Most application should support this. "app /p filename" is a standard Windows parameter to print a document, just as "app filename" is a standard Windows parameter to load a file when the app starts.
Any application written in MFC/VB supports this automatically as it's built into those libraries. Don't know about other libraries, but I would think they would considering /p is a stardard windows param.
In any case, most will support it, and the ones that don't should at least load the application with the file so the user could just hit file/print in the application.

I'd use ShellExecute with 'print' verb.

OMG, how could I have missed that? I had tried using /p as the verb. Apparently I don't know how to read the MSDN very well .
Thanks!

Hi,
i'm trying to do a program with a main dialog and a second that is opened or not from the first. The main dialog is modal and the second is modeless but when i create this last one there's another instance in the system bar of window and i want to hide it, is it possible?
It's possible to make the 2 dialogs modeless?
Thanks

I'd like to help you, but have no slightest idea what do you mean by 'instance in the system bar of window'. Could you explain that part in more detailed fashion?

I think he means an icon in the task bar.

Possibly. Let's wait until OP speaks.

yes, the rectangle with the application icon and its name that appear in the task bar. I've noticed creating a modeless dialog from a MDI/SDI application the rectangle doesn't appear. Creating in my app from the CWinApp class or the main modal dialog it appears

probably it not works with dialogs, the dialog has TOOLWINDOW style activated and the bar appears, i've tried the second thing using a CDialog hidden and popup and make it parent of the modeless dialog: no differencies

Funny, it's working for me. Are you sure you've removed WS_EX_APPWINDOW style as described in KB article?

i've inserted
cs.style &= ~WS_EX_APPWINDOW;
cs.style |= WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW ;
in the PreCreateWindow function of the dialog but with dlg->Create the program doesn't execute PreCreateWindow. Where i can put this code? The TOOLWINDOW option is set also with the dialog editor

You're trying to change window style while you need to modify *extended* style. Remove stuff from PreCreateWindow and add following line to OnInitDialog:
ModifyStyleEx(WS_EX_APPWINDOW, WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW);
Note that you can set WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW in dialog editor, but WS_EX_APPWINDOW is not accessible there (in VC6, at least).

i've seen APPWINDOW isn't in the dialog editor Now it's working, thanks! I'm working on a simple player (i'm boring of ultra skinned apps, ultra wasting memory windows). It plays audio cds, compressed and uncompressed wave files, module music and some video files.
Thanks a lot again

hi friends!
how to trap notifications set with IDirectSoundNotify8::SetNotificationPositions method in a separate thread, in MFC application?

Hello,
I nend to be able to detect the event fired when the user leaves the press operation over a button:
I'm trying to activate a process while the button is pressed and deactivate it as soon as the button is left.
As always thank you very much.

Do you mean when they let go of the mouse button on your control? If so, WM_LBUTTONUP
Or do you mean when they move the pointer outside your button? Then use TrackMouseEvent & WM_MOUSELEAVE
Or do you mean when the user moves the mouseout of your control while the mouse button is down?
If so then set a flag when you get WM_LBUTTONDOWN and clear it when you get WM_LBUTTONUP, and also use TrackMouseEvent() and WM_MOUSELEAVE.

Hello,
I've spent all night working and I can't think clearly, could you help me again?
Where should I place those message filters? in PreTranslateMessage? and what about TrackMouseEvent? (I've tried to find information of that function in msdn and only one article appears, and I've not understood where to place anything...)
Thank you in advance...

Can you clarify which of the 3 scenarios you are trying to capture?

I must say that I didn't thought of those three detection modes, but I need all of them, due to the fact that I need to stop the process activated by clicking that button when any of that events happens...
Could you explian me this scenario?
