how do you get to the templates in VWD 2008 express?
In 2005 it is layout>insert table...dialog box choose template.
In 2008 there is the table>insert table but no option for templates.
Does 2008 even have templates?

Below is a section of a web page I am in the midst of writing.
What I require is a simple "Click the Send Button" and the information entered into the textboxes and selected from the comboboxes is immediately sent to an email account.
What is happening is that it is going to outlook and requesting a second request to hit send.
IE the information is being picked up, but instead of being sent in the background as it were, it is then forming a "New Mail" page and requesting me to press send again.
How do I avoid this, and let it send automatically?
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

I use code-behind to do my sending of email.
Check this out ...
Imports System.Net.Mail
Private Sub MailIt(ByVal toUser As String, ByVal fromUser As String, ByVal subj As String, ByVal sBody As String)
Try
Dim mm As New MailMessage(fromUser, toUser)
mm.Subject = subj
mm.Body = sBody
mm.IsBodyHtml = True
' Create the SmtpClient object
Dim smtp As New SmtpClient
' Send the MailMessage (will use the Web.config settings)
smtp.Send(mm)
Catch ex As Exception
'logMessage("dave", ex.Message.ToString)
End Try
End Sub

How do I call this?
Write it as a piece of vb.net and save to webspace, then on Input Button1 command I do something?
(Sorry to be so ignorant of this)

I'm making the big assumption that you are developing your website with ASP.NET.
You would place an ASP.NET button (different from an HTML button) on the page and for the OnClick event in the code behind you would have something like this:
Protected Sub btnEmail_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnEmail.Click
Call MailIt("jdoe@mycompany.com", "fromMe@buzz.com", "This is a test subject", "This is the body of the email")
End Sub
If you are not using ASP.NET, then I may have mislead you.

I am not doing this through ASP, but thanks for trying, I think there is a third party tool available for this.

I made this flash movie of an elephant a while ago. It had a cool script that made the elephant's eyes follow the cursor around the screen. But the latest flash has screwed it up. I get some security message. Anyone know what that's about?

Hello, this is Vikash.
I want some information related to web development using ASP.net.
Actually I have a project in which I use electronic Devices connected to PC and Collect Data From These Devices by using DLL files.
But this project is a Desktop Application which runs in background and keeps on collecting data from Device.
Now i want to convert this to Web Application and I want to know whether I can use the DLL file as i use in Desktop Application, If Yes then whether I need to keep the file at Server Level or do i need it on the client PC.
Another query is How Can I Detect and Use USB Ports, COM Ports and Devices Connected to these ports on Client PC using my Web Application.
Awaiting a reply soon, Thanks in Advance.

Yes of course, u can refer to any DLL you want in your web application. Just get the data from the service which is connected to the device and then provide it to the web application.
You can also use an intermediate file to store device data, so that it can be fetched from the website when requested by the client.
Of course you have to place the DLL in the server.

Hello, Abhishek.
Thanks for your reply.
In Your reply You say,
"Just get the data from the service which is connected to the device and then provide it to the web application."
Can you explain in a bit details.
See Actually, the DLL itself has functions using which I Connect to Device and Collect data from it.
One Call to the function gives me one data record.
So if i use the same functions in the same way as i use in Desktop Application, from my web page, will it work.
Hope I am not annoying you by my Questions.
Awaiting your reply.

Hi everybody,
I have a pllication developed for ie(fully compatible with ie6) i want it to run in ie8 as well.so i added to emulate IE7 in the meta of my master page as follows
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />
Every thing seems ok
i have many drop downs in the page.i am using a css to set the dropdown properties font-size:11px;
but when i scroll down the page and scroll back up again the text displayed in the drop down is streched vertically.When i point my mouse near the drop down control it comes back to the original size.
I have tried all the css properties but no result;
Can anyone suggest how i can solve this

I use the same code and the same browser and don't get that problem. I'd check you have the latest IE8.

Hi guys!
Am trying to insert data from a drop-down menu and text boxes on a web page into a SQL 2008 database table, but it doesn't seem to be working!
Can you please tell me where I have gone wrong, see code below:
Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
SqlDataSource2.InsertCommand = "INSERT INTO [LessonTimes] ([Name], [Lesson Date], [Lesson Time]) VALUES (@Name, @Lesson Date, @Lesson Time)"
SqlDataSource2.InsertParameters.Add("Name", DropDownList1.SelectedValue)
SqlDataSource2.InsertParameters.Add("Lesson Date", TextBox3.Text)
SqlDataSource2.InsertParameters.Add("Lesson Time", TextBox2.Text)
SqlDataSource2.Insert()
End Sub
The table is called LessonTimes, and there is also a primary key on this table called LessonID.
Thanks in advance.

How isn't it working?
Are you getting an error?
|
|
|
|
|
Not getting an error, but the data just isn't appearing in the table itself.
|
|
|
|
|
You're probably getting an error of some kind, but not trapping it. Wrap the code in a try...catch block (or whatever the VB equivalent is) and see what pops up.
My other signature is witty and insightful.

We have developed common asp.net web app that requires SSL. Our client is a CA and they issued new certificate for this app. The problem is that their certificate is not present on most systems as trusted root yet. Clients are therefore getting security warnings in their browsers, and we think that they are discouraged to proceed.
Is there any way to detect if browser trusts web app certificate or if it has required authority certificate in its trusted root? This way we could at least display some instructions about certificates and point them to CA page to download it.
