or you could use GetParent(m_hWnd), or CWnd* pWndParent = this->GetParent().
But like the man (No offence) says be _MORE_ specific.

I'm having a problem with Visual Studio and can't quiet understand what's going on. I'm using VC++ 6.0 with SP5.
Every so often (more so than I would like) it'll get REALLY slow. To the point where I can't do anything for 30 or 40 seconds at time. This happens at all different times. Often it'll happen simply when I open a medium size file (6,000 lines) and hit return to insert a new line.
I have Task Manager opened, and the CPU is pegging out during these times.
I have a P3 at 733. I have 384MB of RAM. I've had this happen on NT4 as well as W2K. My project is largeish: about two dozen subfolders, and plenty of .cp and .h files (hundreds in fact). But, I'm not building MS Word here, so I can't believe on this machine that I'm over taxing DevStudio.
I've disbled all addins, I am using sourcesafe.
Any ideas as to what could be the problem, or how I can find out what's eating up the CPU time?

Turn off all of the Statement Completion Options in Tools->Options
|
|
|
|
|
That kinda reduces the value of DevStudio then doesn't it?
Are you suggesting this as an idea, or do you know for sure that this is the cause of slowness?

check out the CFileEditCtrl class. In this class I placed a button on an edit control. You can use the same technique with a static control.

Look for an app called VNC. It's open-source and does the job quite well.
|
|
|
|
|
In http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc You will be able to find the VNC.
If it does not find the sources, Only let know to me, that I have the sources.
Cheers.
If you have the source of the snake game, Please it does not say anything!!!

We have a client/server app where the client talks to the server app via a browser. We need to check if the user has access to a bunch of files that have NT ACL's assigned to them. Currently, we are thinking of doing it like this:
We authenticate the user using NT challenge/response, falling back to basic authentication if this is not available. Our ISAPI will send our server app the user's account name and password. We have persisted the file ACL's as blobs in a database so we retrieve these blobs and rebuild the ACL but to call AccessCheck(), we need a token for the user and the only way we can see how to get this is to call LogonUser().
We are a bit concerned about the performance hit (we are processing thousands of transactions per hour for many clients) - is there another way to do this? We were thinking about maybe getting a SID for the user and then manually walking the ACL to do our own access check but are not sure about how to handle groups - none of us have done NT security before

Hi All,
How to display 16 greyscale BMP file to VGA screen, in Visual C++?

You need to dither your picture if you want it too look good on 16-color screen. Error diffusion gives quite good results - search the net for algorithm description.

Load it in as a resource if you know what it is, or using LoadImage if you do not. Select it into a memory DC and blt it across in your OnPaint.

We require users to log onto our app using an NT account and provide a droplist of the available domains, the same as NT does during Windows logon.
We have been getting the list of domains from the Registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Winlogon/DomainCache but have found that this key does not necessarily exist on every machine. However these machines correctly display the domain droplist when logging on.
How can we reliably get the list of available domains?

I'm not entirely sure if this is what you're after, but the MSDN Library has a Visual C++ sample called DispTrus (just type DispTrus into the index to find it). This sample enumerates all of the trusted domains for a specified machine.
Hope this helps.

Exactly what was needed - thanks!
Out of interest, do you know who populates the registry with the list of domains and why it isn't always there?
And you might be able to clear something up for me. A lot of the time when managing Windows, you seem to be able to use machine names and domain names interchangeably yet programmatically, they seem to be treated differently. Do I have to always write code that checks for one or the other or is there some way that I can have this auto-magically happen?

Glad to help.
I'm no network expert, so I'm not too sure of the facts, but as far as I know:
Machine names and domain names are very different things. The logon dialog (usually) displays the domains that are available to logon to and the local machine name (thus making it appear like a domain).
Hierarchically a domain consists of a whole load of machines, each with a unique name. This is why you have to treat them separately programmatically. If you want to access a machine, you need to use a machine name, if you want to access a domain you need to use a domain name. I think that another aspect of confusion is that often the domain name is the same as the machine which is acting as it's controller (PDC), though this doesn't have to be the case.

I am preparing an address book same as windows address book and i
have a problem that i want to save whole setting (all folders and
contects) of tree control but i don't know how to do this. Can some one
solve my this problem.

You have to traverse all treeview items and perform appropriate actions. Use CTreeCtrl::GetRootItem/GetChildItem/GetNextSiblingItem for iterating over items.

There is a model of network!
LAN1:
host A ---------> Out host ---------> Internet
(192.168.1.44) (202.102.43.56)
LAN2:
host B ---------> Out host ---------> Internet
(192.168.1.44) (166.101.26.34)
I want to make A communicate with B through Internet!
There are two way to run!
1. Every out host is Proxy Server and have socks5 protocal.I have known the principle of this way!
2. Every out host is LAN network gateway,I can't grasp the principle about it,
I want to know how to realize it using Winsock!
Please help me! Thanks a lot!
