Hi everyone,
I am exploring the possibility of plugging webcams/cameras (preferrably any webcam/camera - so I don't get tied to a particular hardware vendor) into a Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device, and write a piece of software app that allows user to click a button in that software app to get the plugged-in webcam/camera to take pictures or video streams.
So, I will need to know if this is possible to write a software app to do so on Windows Mobile 5 or 6 platforms? .NET is preferred but not essential.
What exactly do the webcam need to adhere to (for example, TWAIN)? USB Video Class 1.1? Bluetooth?
I had a look on the internet but no luck so far.
Any pointers will be welcome.
Thanks
p.s. I also posted the same message on Stackoverflow...
p.s. also posted this incorrectly in the hardware section, sorry

Drivers on Windows Mobile must be written in a native language. .Net is not an option. Either way while this is possible most vendors of web cams won't give you sufficient information for creating your own driver. I'm not sure why you are concerned with being tied to hardware given that most windows mobile devices have a built in camera.

Thanks Joel. The reason is the client has a need to use high-end camera/webcam on the field, so they envision plugging in whatever camera/webcam they fancy when they are out on the field with the mobile device.
So just to make sure I understand... it sounds like we need to get the driver from the manufacturer and maybe write .NET wrappers around the the driver so my Wi8ndows Mobile app can talk to the camera/webcam... let me know if this is correct.
Thanks.

It isn't that easy. Manufacturers normally won't share their driver code. And you can't write drivers in .Net. It has to be done in native code (C++). And you won't find much information on writing drivers for Windows Mobile since that is something usually done by the OEM.

When trying to make register for a dll file in windows ce using regsvrCE as follows:
regsvrce "Application\mArabicCore.dll"
it raise error message " Loadlibrary ("Application\mArabicCore.dll") failed GetLastError returns c1 "
I need to know what this message means?
i made search for how to register dll file on Windows CE and i found another two ways but i can't understand them:
1 - Use a cab file (you need to place a CESelfRegister line in the inf file).
2 - Write an additional setup dll that calls DllRegisterServer on your dll.
Can any one help me?
Thanks in advance

2) see here for writing a setup dll: Manual uninstaller for PocketPC[^].
Inside the Install_Exit function add some code to load the dll, get the proc address of the DllRegisterServer in the dll and call it.

Hi All,
I am using a own written function in 'C' to find the square root of a given number (as the hard ware does not allow me to use standard func in math.h also no floating numbers allowed)
The function returns the square root using repitative division,
the problem is if the number (input) is more than 10000, it consumes a considerable amount of processor time
Is there any algorithms or methods where the repitative division is avoided??

Check this out, I even think they have some sample code to look at. It is using binary to solve it.

i need to be able to capture mouseclicks on my device, which runs on Windows CE6, and store them somewhere to send them to my desktop application.
I've been looking around, on normal windows you would use SetWindowsHookEx and other functions alike from the user32.dll, but on WinCE these functions are not included in the coredll.dll.
Does anyone know a way of doing this?
thanks in advance!

It is possible. If you are getting a weak signal then the device may jump back and forth between the towers that it sees.

It means that the tower is not in the OpenCellID database. If you want to verify this you can download the OpenCellID database and check for yourseld.

What is there to understand? The names of the the elements in the database (LAC, CellID...) match the names of the fields that get populated when you call the RIL functions.
Vivek Vijayan wrote: an article in codeproject suggests google has a better database.
It is unclear if google intends for people to access that information outside of their own applications. I would not encourage using google's database. It might be easier for you to use the SkyhookWireless service.
