Really? You think you have a minute to give me some sort of direction on how?
If you want.

What's so hard about this? You use three standard methods on two classes in the System.Io namespace: Directory.GetFiles, Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension, and Directory.CreateDirectory. I'll leave it as an excersize to you to figure out code required to do three simple steps, get the list of files from a folder, get the filename portion (no extension) of each filename, and create a new folder using that name. It's possible to do in three lines of code.

Hi,
Paste this into a new batch file and execute it:
echo off
for /f %%a IN ('dir /b *.pdf') do mkdir %%~na
pause
It will make a folder for each PDF file while excluding the extension.

What happens when you try it?

My system load very slow than usual when I logged on to my profile.

Does it load at normal speed when you revert to the smaller image file? If so you have found the problem, and the solution.

We have got a requirement to deliver a redundancy solution using SAN. Let's say we are going to build two RAID 5 arrays and then mirror them to a RAID 1. I have a hardware solution that can build two RAID 5, but they cannot build a mirror on the top of them. I have a number of questions:
1) Can Windows Server 2003 build a RAID over SAN at all?
2) Can Windows Server 2003 build RAID 1 on the top of, in other words mirror, two RAID 5?
2) If I power off one RAID 5 and power it on again, can Windows 2003 rebuild the entire or part of this RAID 5 via the mirror?
Regards,
Best,
Jun

First, if you're looking at a software based solution for RAID (i.e. Windows), you're screwing yourself performance-wise.
You should really be directing this question to SAN vendors to see what they can offer.

Read this[^], specifically looking at RAID 1+0 and RAID 0+1, these seem to be doing what your asking, just not in software though generally.

If you are looking at a SAN based solution - it probably means you have a lot of data and need lots of features (like iSCSI with pass-through write capability). Otherwise, you could use a NAS device with SATA disks. First of all (as mentioned in an earlier response) do NOT use a software based RAID solution. Secondly, if high-availability is important, go with RAID6 and not RAID5. If there will be a lot of I/O on the array, you need a performance boost. My overall advice: don't build one yourself. Purchase a NetApp (with their really cool RAID DP) or HP StorageWorks unit.
We purchased an HP StorageWorks MSA2012i. Our configuration has 2.7TB usable space and uses a RAID6 array with dual controllers. I think it cost just over $7000 (with an account manager).

Hello,
My question is a bit generic. Please bear with me as i am not able to give the hardware scenario here.
How many maximum number of network interfaces can be configured on a typical machine in an enterprise setup. Is there any limitations in terms of number of network slots or the number of virtual IPs?
Thanks.
|
|
|
|
|
You're limitated by your system resources.
In the GUI you can only add five IPs per connection, but that limit you can workaround by editing the registry.
Just remember that, if you have more than one gateway you'll need to manually edit your routes or install the RIP listener.

Hello guys,
Let me try to explain my situation as best as I can. I currently have 3 servers set up.
1) Application Server (a)
2) File Server (b)
3) Web Server (c)
Now between the Web server and the WAN there is a dedicated PC acting as the FIREWALL.
Now the thing is I am developing certain applications to communicate between server C and server a. Now server a has 2 network cards 1 being used to connect to the switch that connects server a and b to the rest to the office, and the other network card has a cable running from it ot the C machine as the C machine is on a sperate network than servers a and b.
Now here comes my problem i need to configure the Windows firewall on a to allow only certain connections, ports etc. from server C and rest disallow only for the connection between A - C but the rules must apply
Hope you guys understood, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Everyone
I'm after finding the best way to set up my network so that my Win2k3 can act as a VPN server.
I have an abundance of routers that can act as switches if required, but my current setup is as follows:
Modem into Linksys Router
All devices including server into said router.
With this setup, some clients are having trouble resolving host names when connected, and I have trouble connecting to the server from within the network unless I use IP address.
I have 2 NICs on the server, so I was thinking that maybe the correct setup would be:
Modem into Linksys Router
Nic 1 of Server into Linksys Router
Nic 2 of server into 2nd router (not sure if it should go in the modem port or normal port)
all other devices into 2nd router
Maybe config server to act as DNS server
I think this may fix my DNS problem, but I'm no expert on these things.
This would force all trafic through the server. Would this be a problem? What is the best way of doing this?
Many Thanks

I would keep the hardware as it is.
Disable the DHCP on the router.
Install or enable DNS and DHCP on the server. Then set gateway and dns in the DHCP settings to point to your server.
|
|
|
|
|
Great. I'll give that a try.
The gateway and dns settings be on my router? or do you mean in the TCP/IP settings of the network connections on each machine?
Thanks,

No I mean that you should set the gateway (should point to your router) and dns (should point to your server) options on the dhcp server so that your clients can pick them up automatically.
This also means that you should leave the ipsettings on your clients to automatic.

Thank you. Your a star.

Hello all,
I am having trouble with one of my web servers, the aspnet_wp.exe process is maxing out the CPU usage for long periods of time and causes the web applications to respond very slowly. I was wondering if there's a way to monitor the incoming requests or current activity of the IIS/asp.net to pin point exactly what website may be causing this high CPU usage.
I'm running win 2000, IIS 5 and .NET 2.0
Thanks.
PS. I hope it's in the right section, I didn't see any board specific for server issues

Use the performance monitor. You'll find it in the Administrative tools folder.
