Thanks for the reply Mark.
Indeed I have worked on projects of similar type, but they were conducted in university courses inside laboratories, so the projects were obviously not ready for commercialization.
As for your suggestions of ASP.NET and SQL Server, may I ask what other comparable alternatives are there?
Would, for example, using MySQL server be more secure and easier to use than Microsoft's SQL Server?
Also, while we are indeed going to use SSL, we believe we can do more for security. After all, most web server attacks occur not because of the server's weakness, but because a badly written web app; so I would love to be pointed in the direction where I can learn how to add concrete security to my web app.
Thanks for the help again.

So you're first real-world project involves a high security web application Does the client know this?
MySQL isn't any more or less secure than SQL Server if its configured and used properly. However, since this is a beginning project there are more resources and support for SQL Server in an ASP.NET environment tha you may benefit from.

Thanks for the link, I'll study it thoroughly.
And yes, the client knows about it. They want us to do it because they can't afford to a pay a lot. For us it's more of a great learning experience than financial gain, though.

Hi All,
I have been stuck with this problem for a long time and have not found any solution.
suppose I have a page called a.aspx.vb and a class file called B.vb.
in a.aspx.vb I create a new instance of B:
protected sub page_load()
dim cls as new B
dim lit as new literal
lit = b.createbutton
end sub
then say inside the B.vb I have:
protected function createbutton() as literal
dim lit as new literal
dim butt as new Button()
'this is where my problem is
addhandler butt.click, addressof method
lit.controls.add(butt)
return lit
end function
I want my code to do something on click. like...assign some value to some variables on a.aspx.
say again in the a.aspx I want
something like:
sub method
'on button click
dim something as string
something = "the button has been clicked"
end sub
But obviously it won't work just like that. so how do I do that???
I hope this explains what I need. Thanks for helping in advance.

Are you still havign trouble with your transaction log ?
I understand you want a permanent fix to your transaction log file growing, but there is no "fix" to your problem. This is normal operation of a database, each time a record is inserted/updated/deleted, there is a before and after image of the record written to the transaction log so that you can either rollback the transaction or apply re-do logs after a database crash. You can't prevent transaction logs from growing, you just need to know how to manage them.
For example, the most basic management of SQL db could be implemented as follows:
1) Set the recovery model to "simple"
2) Each night, perform a full backup of the database.
3) Truncate the transaction log file
Also, you may want to review the following TechNet article ...
How to stop the transaction log of a SQL Server database from growing unexpectedly

Thanks for your reply and a good article,

But if it increasing by certain amount then it's fine but it increased to 200 GB or more in few weeks time bringing it to 450GB or so which is just bizzar. We are using recovery model to full - could this be an issue ??

Hello guys,
I writing a data driven web application with .NET 3.5 using VB.NET Now I want to provide a quick option for users. I mean as soon as the user types in the search textbox, I want to filter records from my DB table where typed text LIKE or match the corresponding column in the table. Just as if one is performing search at Google.com but my own case is to get the filtered text from DB.
How do I go about this please?
Thanks for your usual support.

Hello
You can transfer the variable by other ways
For example,you can use a linkbutton and transfer the value by session.

You can give here number, text or Image.
Try to Explore Pager Settings [ FirstPageText, LastPageText, NextPageText, FirstPageImageUrl etc.. ] for GridView .
