hello , i am having trouble with validating an xhtml file and javascript, the javascript is external and works perfect until i put in the doctype etc... i really need help with this as its a college project and have tried various sources. .....
Here is the code ....
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html >
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../structure.css"/>
<script type="text/javascript" src="gallary.js">
</script>
</head><body>
<div id="container">
<div id="gallery">
<img id="Photo" width="100%" height="100%" src="" border="3px" alt="Photo" />
</div></div>
<div id="logo">
</div>
<div id="image"><img src="../images/games.jpg" width="700px" height="200px" alt="Games" /></div>
<div id="contentbox">
<div id="content">
<a href="#" onmouseover='http://.....')">
<img src="http:
</a>
</div></div></body></html>
This has been shortened so its easier to see and it all works if i don't put the DOCTYPE in ... :s

I've been asked to extend our logging fields to include a couple of other fields that weren't covered before (for the purposes of troubleshooting of course), does anyone have any suggestions other than standard IIS fields and Session ID to log?
We did consider logging IP but for the purposes of the site, it would be relatively pointless.
Thanks in advance.

It might help to know what you are already logging.

Browser type, Requested URL, .NET Session ID and alot of client specific properties. All timestamped of course.

I am looking for a self contained simple example that demonstrates how the Code Project shows a Collapse Expand section for code snippets. Anybody willing to share it with me?

This can be done using an image, div and javascript. Put those +,- images in your page. Then, handle click event for it and hide/show the div containing code block. Also, change the images then.
Here[^] are a plenty of example showing that.
50-50-90 rule: Anytime I have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability I'll get it wrong...!!

I have been struggling with this for a while now. I have an ajax function that calls an .aspx page into another .aspx page.
It works in firefox chrome etc but not in IE, but if I use the function to call a .html page it works in IE fine and I have no idea why its not working when i try and use it to call an .aspx. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Heres the code:-
ajax.js
function getReactionTXT(REACT_TXT) {<br />
if (!isWorking && http) {<br />
http.open("GET", "getreactions.aspx?reaction_text=" + REACT_TXT);<br />
http.onreadystatechange = SearchReactions; <br />
isWorking = true;<br />
http.send(null);<br />
}<br />
}<br />
<br />
<br />
function SearchReactions() {<br />
if (http.readyState == 4) {<br />
var div = document.getElementById('reactionSearch');<br />
div.innerHTML = http.responseText;<br />
isWorking = false;<br />
}<br />
}<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
function getHTTPObject() {<br />
var xmlhttp;<br />
<br />
if (!xmlhttp && typeof XMLHttpRequest != 'undefined') {<br />
try {<br />
xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();<br />
xmlhttp.overrideMimeType("text/xml"); <br />
} catch (e) {<br />
xmlhttp = false;<br />
}<br />
}<br />
return xmlhttp;<br />
}<br />
<br />
var http = getHTTPObject();
var isWorking = false;

There is nothing wrong with the code as posted.
I copy and paste ed it and retrieved an aspx page.

Thanks for your response, what version of IE were you using? I'm testing it on IE 8 and it wont play ball
Cheers,
James

Maybe we need to look at the aspx page that fails.

I tried it with a very simple .aspx page with no content in it and it still does not work. After searching around for a while it seems sometimes using the 'innerHTML' method causes some problems with IE. I found a solution to this by using 'appendChild' instead but it is not as clean as the innerHTML method as I have to clear the divs content first. If anyone knows of a better way or how I could make this better then please let me know.
heres the modified code:-
function SearchReactions() {<br />
if (http.readyState == 4) {<br />
var div = document.getElementById('reactionSearch');<br />
<br />
var newdiv = document.createElement("div");<br />
newdiv.innerHTML = http.responseText;<br />
<br />
div.innerHTML = '';<br />
<br />
div.appendChild(newdiv);<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
isWorking = false;<br />
}<br />
}

I am posting here today to announce my new CMS website. Please let me know what you think. I am still working out the kinks and would like to get some feedback from knowledgeable people.
CMoSi is my creation to enable regular users to control their site content.
CMoSi works on any platform (Windows, Linux, etc...) and runs under any language. It works with .NET, php, cgi, plain HTML or anything else! You just cut and paste a code snippet (much like youtube embedding) onto your page. CMoSi does the rest. I also added versioning functionality to let you preview your changes and then decide when to make your new version "LIVE" so to speak.
I have been a member of CodeProject since 2006, and I believe in it's helpfulness in ALL areas of software development. I want to get my software out into the developer community.
Please feel free to check out www.cmosi.com and create a free trial membership to give it a try!

I think that you're going to be downvoted like wild, because this "feels" like an advertisement.

That sounds far more interesting than the claim of being the "fastest, easiest and cheapest".

I did, for a "free page" and I got redirected to a page stating "Please enter your billing information below." I closed the browser at that point.

Eddy,
You are right that it asks you for some information, but just address and email. I need to verify who people are when they use CMoSi to display their content. I want to avoid anyone using it for malicious purposes.
I do not require any credit card information unless you want to purchase a subscription.
I am very excited to see what people think,as this is my first site that I have owned and created by myself.
I thought of the idea myself as I was wiring in YET ANOTHER pain in the butt CMS backend to a website. I am hoping CMoSi can make life easier for us developers.
If you are not comfortable entering your address, I understand. Thanks for at least checking out the site!

This is cheap! If you want to advertise on this site then please pay for it like everyone else.

I have already spoken with the advertising department on CodeProject.com. I just want to get some feedback from real developers before I launch an ad campaign.

Perhaps you should have made that clear in your initial post. People tend to downvote, or vote for removal, messages such as yours.

HI Guys
Here's the deal.
I'm trying to write a small javascript program which would be doing this:
if W is pressed on keyboard then write '1' in texbox
if E is pressed on keyboard then write '2' in texbox
if R is pressed on keyboard then write '3' in texbot
etc.
Thanks Much in advance
