Maybe on Mac even P needs a closing tag?

It could be! I built a blank web page last night using Interdev, then ran it through a syntax checker. There are 17 errors! Maybe I should go back to using Notepad and the HTML spec...

Syntax checker? You mean W3C HTML Validator? I'm using Interdev also and my pages with no errors. Err.... actually I'm using Interdev like a simple Notepad, just typing all the code by myself, lol.
But yes, I saw that there is not align="center" in Interdev for TD tag. It places "middle" instead, and this is not right according to W3C. I had a headache battling with it, LMAO

Interdev sucks, but it still saves me a little bit of time. I can rough out the page quickly, but then I have to manually edit and tweak it in the Source editor to make anything work correctly. I tried some of the design-time controls, but they just make matters worse. I'd be willing to bet that nothing at microsoft.com was built using it
|
|
|
|

Heh, never used all those design-time things. What for? I'm always using Source editor to make pages, thus they are cleaner. But in ASP development I didn't find better tool. I tried Dreamweather (or whatever it called) and it was really sucks, too many unuseful features with less usefull. And had a headache to setup it so I can view my ASP files, lol
So still using Interdev for ASP development. If I need to make a quick layout - so FrontPage makes it easy
Maybe you can tell me some good tool for ASP development? I would like to test some, maybe I'll find better

I haven't tried any .asp yet. This stuff is straight HTML. Nice to know there's something that Interdev does well - it sure isn't any good for making simple web pages! I think the program you're referring to is DreamWeaver - I've seen really mixed reviews of it, too. I'm still looking for a tool that actually works, though

So I think I’ve discovered a bug in the JScript.Net compiler. It has to do with the VBArray object and it’s use in derived class' constructor; specifically when initializing the base class. I’ve taken a brief look into the compilers’ source code, but the problem isn’t just popping out at me, so further exploration into this will be necessary.
The following code demonstrates the bug.
class BaseClass {
private var a_ : Array;
public function BaseClass ( a : Array ) {
this.a_ = a;
}
}
class DerivedClass extends BaseClass {
public function DerivedClass ( a : VBArray ) {
super ( a.toArray () );
}
}
Here's a dump of the error, if anyone's interested. It looks like it got a problem with creating a local variable (why?), but that's just a guess at this point.

Friends,
I'm writing an Web Image Viewer so that our Clients can view their stuff from anywhere.
However, once the correct image has been selected, I've got a frames set-up with the image in one frame and a toolbar in the lower one, with Rotate, Invert etc commands to manipulate the Image. (all done using an ISAPI Extension). They all work OK up to a point.
If, for example, I rotate the Image by 180 (hard coded) degrees, an asp page is opened, called RotatedImage.asp, that calls the ISAPI extension, which does the processing, and displays the Image rotated. BUT, if I want to get the Image back to where it was, I should be able to hit the Rotate button again and "Hey Presto!". No way! It just stays the same.
I assume that there is a copy of the RotatedImage.asp file being held somewhere in cache and this is what is being displayed. If so, how can I stop this and get a fresh page each time I hit Rotate?
I have tried using:
function OnRotate()
{
parent.main.location.replace("RotatedImage.asp");
}
instead of:
function OnRotate()
{
parent.main.location.href("RotatedImage.asp");
}
but this doesn't work either, although it does improve things.
It seems the only way I can create a new RotatedImage page each time is by usig "window.open("RotatedImage.asp")" but that opens a new Browser window on top of the frame, so no good either.
Any ideas?
Thanks for your patience!

Just a quick thought. Did you set the target correct when you used the open method? What about using the navigate method?

thanks for the reply, Mark.
No, I didn't set a Target when I used the Open() method. How do I do that? The syntax?
As you can see, my knowledge of JavaScript is close to zero - I usually work in C, C++, MFC etc. Suppose I'll have to buy yet another book and learn some!
I appreciate your help anyway.

Search MSDN, online or otherwise. There are plenty of sites out there for help with JavaScript.

Mark,
Thanks for your help - it's working fine now. I changed the toolbar from using plain buttons, with handlers for on_click, to Forms for each button so that I could use the Target, as you suggested.
I had the knowledge to do that all along but sometimes I just need a push in the right direction. It helps to get ideas from others sometimes.
Thanks again.

You can correct this by changing the settings manually.
1) open Windows Explore
2) Tools->Folder Options->File Types (tab)
3) Scroll down to (and select) ASPX - Web Form
4) Click 'Change...' button (bellow on dailogbox)
5) Select you program
Hopefully that solves you problem

I seem to be having a problem with editing datagrid columns. I have defined both ItemTemplate and EditItemTemplate for my Template columns in the datagrid.
The initial display looks good but when entering edit mode... The selected item is changed to textboxes for editing like I expected but items below the one selected are not drawn.
|
|
|
|
|
Found the problem. I was of course populating the DataGrid and the dropdown from a database. It appears that you can't use the same SqlConnection to do both. The datagrid is being populated with the normal items until it hits the item being edited. So when the connection is already open it fails to populate the remaining items.

Can do this with javascript???? please help me!
thanks.

If you mean to have a javascript popup displayed when you open html email in Outlook or similiar apps, I would say this is not possible, the security settings should block this.

I've constructed a website using the primitive (to the rest of you) plain vanilla HTML. There are about a dozen pages, all built on a single boilerplate design. The links, except one, act correctly. The one always opens a new browser window instead of replacing the current view! I thought at first that it was due to a nested table on the page, but I've since added another page with a nested table, and it works correctly. Any ideas?

Have you set the target correctly? Just a quick guess
|
|
|
|
|
On your suggestion I checked. I did once try using a target tag in the menu, and quickly discovered that it doesn't work unless the target is a frame. I tried naming TD, P, DIV, and SPAN elements and targeting them, but none worked. It so happens that on this particular page I had deleted my previous attempts to use target=, but I neglected to remove it from all the others! As a result, the problem page had no errors to find - it was all the others.
Thanks for the tip

Is it possible to have an asp.net web application that uses windows forms for dialog boxes and settings without requiring the client user to have the .net redistrubutable? Thanks.
