New to VB6?? Don't bother. Stop now before you pick up a bunch of very bad habits and start by learning VB.NET.
VB6 is long since dead and is no longer supported by MS.
I also refuse to help on VB6 questions anymore because I believe it just promots people to want MS to keep the thing around and working on future versions of Windows.

Two additional warnings;
0) You're declaring a connection conn, while releasing cn at the end. It should release the conn object, not a new variable. (Is Option Explicit turned on?)
1) You're vulnerable to SQL-injection, using an ADODB.Parameter might help.

My application is like a brick game where i have to fill the space with
correct brick size.
i have a large rectangular/square container
in that container , i have to place small rectangles or squares
so that there should be less wastage of space in the container.
first my doubt is can we do this application using vb.net or .net
if yes then can you give a little bit idea or a link which can be helpful to me to start this kind of application.

This is really a mathematical problem where you need to create an array showing the empty spaces and then fill them with bricks. I assume that you know the algorithm to do this; the actual coding can be done in any language you choose.

you can do that perfectly with the .NET framework.
you can do it with VB.NET, I would use C# but that is a personal preference of mine.
I suggest you read some CodeProject articles on games.
and you need to learn and help yourself, so search for those articles and start reading!

This sound to me very similar to a shipping logic problem.
The below is defiantly not the answer but it is a start.

The above code basically checks to see if all the shapes will fit into the container/main box. You will perhaps need to sort the array into longest sides, then position the largest sized shapes into the box first.
Also take into consideration that some of the shapes could potentially be rotated.
Might be worth looking into logic/calculations for packing boxes as well as games development, Id be very interested to know if you find some good samples.

Hi all,
My application works fine.
However, I am connecting to 5 DBF files and the queries are very slow.
[If I copy the DBF files to the local hard drive everything runs fast enough. 30-40 seconds vs. 1-1.5 minutes]
The DBF needs to stay on the network.
I am hoping that using the index will speed things up enough.
Can anyone tell me how or give me a code example on how to index on DBF files?
Tell me more about using DBF files in a speedier manner?

What are you calling a "DBF" file? Which database engine does it use?
There is no code you put in your application to index a database. All indexing is done by the database engine. What you do there depends on the engine and the design of your database.

I have more than 110000 lines in each table.
I want to keep a check for a range of values.
Thant is:
the vales in the table need a search in the first column(ITEM_NBR) of the table(E_Ensemb)
it has values starting from 0001000000 and so on.
I need to set a range/index to search, saying that if a number starts with 0001 search in 00010000000 - 0001999999
if starts with 0002 then search in 0002000000 - 0002999999.

OK, this sounds like an index is required on the database. I don't know DB2 at all so I can't tell you how to do it. But, I'm sure the documentation on DB2's SQL engine would spell that out pretty clearly.

I don't know the details of DB2, however for any database it all depends on the type of the ITEM_NBR field.
if it is a string with a fixed number of digits, you need string compares, something like
... WHERE ITEM_NBR LIKE "0001%"
if it is an integer number, you can use integer compares, something like
... WHERE ITEM_NBR BETWEEN 00010000000 AND 0001999999"
assuming that is supported, or else
... WHERE ITEM_NBR >= 00010000000 AND ITEM_NBR <= 0001999999"
the string operations will be slower than the numeric operations, and if you need to include a conversion function in your SQL, it will be even slower.

Hi,
could anyone give me a hint for reading the correct size of a apic frame (V2.3). For Text Frames the Frame header gives the correct size. For APIC frames not (seems to be the half of the correct size).
Any idea?

There is nothing that defines what the image size is (except when using a 32x32 PNG icon type $01), so I would imagine you would read the binary data into a buffer, and then check the data against known headers for standard image types.
I have never tried this before so I may be miles of the correct answer.
Have you tried just creating an image object and then pass in the buffer, and see what happens?
You may also want to look at the libraries available here; http://www.id3.org/Implementations[^] to get some info.

Hi,
the Frame Header is holding the size information of the Frame Data. I'm reading the size and if it's a TextFrame (f.e.) the size information is correct. If I read the size of the APIC Header the size is not correct. As I said it seems to be the half of the image data size.
