While reading from a text file and displaying the content in a label or textbox in ASP.Net, junk characters are displayed at the beginning and end of the content. I tried the encoding scheme, but still unable to solve the problem. Please find part of the code below.
FileStream fs2 = new FileStream("D:\\word.doc", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read);
StreamReader sReader2 = new StreamReader(fs2, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8);
string line;
while ((line = sReader2.ReadLine()) != null)
{
Label1.Text = Label1.Text + "\r\n" + line;
}
sReader2.Close();

Hi
I don't think that you can read the content of a word document using FileStream object. Word document (.doc) is stored in binary format. If you read the file using filestream, it will always return the junk characters like newline, tab etc. Get a reference of Microsoft Word 11.0 Object Library and read the document. For more reference use this link

I'm developing a web application using asp.net with VS .net 2008. I also use reporting tool Crystal Reports. I have a problem with arabic data display in the report. If i have a text field or object has arabic data value with special character(like / or _) e.g. ArabicName1/ArabicName2
The resulting displayed data inside the text field or object is reversed i.e. The displayed data is:
ArabicName2/ArabicName1
To solve this problem i changed the Reading Order property to be LTR also changed the Text Interpretation property to RTF then data displayed correctly but this solution is not logic. I'm not using any CSS that may override the text field properties. Could anyone find a solution for this?
Thank You

In the Gridview I have placed a buttonField for each row. The buttontype is Button and the commandname is Details. The text of this button is Details.
I know that when this button is clicked in a row, then the event fired is:
grid_RowCommand(object sender, GridViewCommandEventArgs e)
Question:
In this row, how can I get the value of the cells please?
thanks

There is no Row in iintellisense.

i think you need the value of that row to display the details, if i am right then bind the commandargument field with Id. and as you
describe that commandname is fire then you get the value of commandargument.
hope this is fine with you,
if anything else please put your exact requirement.

You cannot get the row as e.row
use the following code
<br />
int index = Convert.ToInt32(e.CommandArgument);<br />
GridViewRow row = GridView1.Rows[index];<br />
There is also another way to get the row is
<br />
GridViewRow row = (GridViewRow)(((Button)e.CommandSource).NamingContainer);<br />
Hope it help
Cheers!!

hi Brij,
Then how do I get the value of say cell 2 i.e ["name"] or 3 i.e. ["lastname"] ?
Note that this code returns "" whereas there is data in there.
grid.Rows[12].Cells[4].Text
return ""
Thanks

if you need the multiple data such as name,lastname etc. then bind the Id as CommandArgument field and when the row command fire make query in database passing with id (command argument value) and fetch the details of that row. in this way you get the multiple values.
if you need only single value such as lastname or name then bind the commandargument field with that field and rowcommand event you get this value using e.commangargument.
hope this is fine with you.

Thanks for your input but for business purposes I prefer to continue with the method Brij is suggesting.
Any suggestions on my previous question to Brij please?
thanks

It should give ,please see it in the quickwatch that you are getting the actual row with all the controls or not..
I have used it several times...
if you some control on the row you can use row.findcontrol() mathod..
Cheers!!
