The Timer is not 100% accurate and differences CPU cycles, ticks, etc. can throw it off slightly, but it shouldn't be that much of a problem for this usage. If you need absolute precision then create a Thread and use something like GetTickCount

a wild guess as you didn't show any code, nor provided any hard facts: timer intervals are specified in milliseconds, not seconds; your number is just too small.

I only read code that is properly formatted, adding PRE tags is the easiest way to obtain that. [The QA section does it automatically now, I hope we soon get it on regular forums as well]

It's a common complaint, and judging by the amount of spam in my spam folder, it's easily curable.

I set interval to 5000(5 seconds)
i think it's not small number.
What u say?

First of all thanks a lot.
Now problem is
In coding I have time filed which stores current time when there is some events happen.
i wants to generate popup after(5 minutes) time reaches at
time=time + 5minute.
so after every 5 seconds in timer's tick event i am checking,Is time has reached the limit.if it is then generate popup.
This is the coding which i am doing.
<br />
if (System.DateTime.Now.ToShortTimeString() >= Actualtime.AddMinutes(5) )<br />
{<br />
frm_grcprd_popup obj_popup = new frm_grcprd_popup();<br />
obj_popup.lbl_Visitor_Id.Text = id[i].ToString();<br />
obj_popup.Show();<br />
}<br />
There are some more database operation is there to show values on popup.
thats it.

You must show us the relevant code (in PRE tags!) for us to be able to help you.
A simple action that occurs every 5 seconds would not "hang the Computer" unless you have some mistake in there.

I've already tried adjusting the font size but found that I couldn't get more than 11 characters on a line before wrapping occured.

That doesn't change the answer that you'll receive; any piece of paper is limited in length, and all characters consume a part of that length.
There's three options; make the characters smaller, make the space between the characters smaller, or use a larger piece of paper.
Where are you displaying this text? Can you use an alternative visualization, like a ToolTip?

Thanks for the advice. I'd download the source code for the project "Overlay Text To Fit on Any Image" and was trying to get text to overlay on my sample images. Initially, I had a few problems when I imported the project into VS2005. However, I 'believe' I've now sorted the problem - as it directly relates to resolution of the source image. I've already made a few adjustments to the code and will also use the Graphics.MeasurString to check on string length. GM.

Please make your question clearer, and don't start a new thread on the same issue, just add a message to the existing thread like everyone else does.

Which clearly means you are using large font size.

In order to "fit" a string in any image, you would adjust the font size of it rather that adding or removing characters. Isn't it?
You can make use of Graphics.MeasureString method and get the width of the string that would be written. Then adjust font appropriately so that text "fits" in the image.

Hi all, bit of a general query here.
We currently use a system to create letters to send to clients.
This system currently takes a template in html or MSWord xml format and reads it line by line, searching for keywords or loops.
If it finds a keyword - @@KEYWORDNAME@@ - it replaces it with appropriate data.
If it finds a loop keyword - !!LOOPNAME!! - it looks to find the end of the loop and repeats the data however many time the loop requires, for example listing people in a family and resolving their keywords.
It also will soon require whole formatted paragraphs to be inserted from keywords.
The question is, are there any better ways of doing this?
I'm open to suggestions of different formats, different template types, different ways of marking keywords, different ways of reading the templates - anything.
If you've had any experience with a similar type of system, please let me know!
Thanks

You may find that you can do this better using Word macros, written in VBA. One of the good things about macros is hat you can create many of them semi-automatically, just by stepping through the process you want to follow in Word. See the macro menu item under the Tools menu in MSWord. There are many resources on the internet that will help you.

I've used XSLT to handle this type of situation quite effectively in the past. The beauty with XSLT is that you can do things like use template matching to achieve what your trying to do with !!LOOPNAME!! and the likes.

Hello
Can any body tell in detail what is relative virtual addressing and all its basics?
Why virtual addressing is needed? How RVA invlolves in execution of PE files(EXEs,DLLs and so on..)

This is far to broad a question for these forums, I suggest you try Google and find some articles on computer hardware which will explain it. In terms of executing programs the programmer does not, in general, need to know the detail as the operating system manages it automatically.
[edit]I note you have also posted this question in the C++ forum; please post in one forum only.
This is also similar to other questions you have asked in the past; you should have learned how to use Google for yourself by now.[/edit]

Relative Virtual Addressing is addressing memory by it's offset relative to the base locastion.
This allows you to load a dll at a new base location (memory address) without breaking everything.
It is used in the PE file layout - see this article[^] for some background.
