I'm developing a WCF service and a client in a solution and when I use a service reference to the WCF in the solution that is added with FilePath (not IIS) everything works fine. However when I try to either add the service as an IIS website, or I publish the service then host under IIS and then add the reference, I'm getting the following error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[[System.ServiceModel.ExceptionDetail, System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089]]: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

There's not a lot of help that we can offer you here I'm afraid. As you are already aware, this means that you are attempting to access a property/method on an object that is null. The details of where the exception is really happening will be in the InnerException, so that's where you need to look.

Using this excellent article[^] I am trying to set up a custom binding extension. The issue is that when the binding finds the source object, I need to do some stuff to the source object, but I don't know where to put that code. For example, I have the following class:
class MyObject {
public string Value { get; set; }
}
and some XAML in MainWindow.xaml:
<Button Content="{my:CustomBinding Value}">
And set the data context in code:
public MainWindow()
{
InitializeComponent();
this.DataContext = MyObject;
}
That much works, the Value string gets displayed on the button. But what I need to do is write code in the CustomBinding class that operates on MyObject as soon as possible, which means I need to resolve MyObject from the BindingExpression.
What I've figured out so far is that when the CustomBinding instance is created, it doesn't actually find the MyObject.Value because it needs to find the data context first in order to resolve the BindingExpression, so it doesn't actually find MyObject until the MainWindow gets laid out on screen.
So my question is, what code do I write in the CustomBindingExtension class so that it runs when the WPF layout system decides to resolve the BindingExpression to find MyObject?

For anyone interested, the answer turned out to be to hook into the DataContextChanged event of the targeted UI element (button1.DataContextChanged in this case).

Hi guys,
I am really new to WPF. I unerstand the concept of using Templates to create customization of a control, and i have attempted to change the visual behaviour of the Progressbar control and now hitting a brick wall.
So there are 3 things i would like to do:
1) Remove the 3d shiny part of the control - i dont like the 3d ness
I used control template to modify the foreground, i sucessfully killed the 3d shininesss, but moving part is expanding itself starting at the center point of the entire progress bar, and that it only expends to 100 pixels wide. this is because i set te Width=Value the foreground rectrangle's width attribute. How do i make it so that when the value = 100, the progressbar is fully filled?
<Rectangle Fill="{TemplateBinding Foreground}"
Height="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Width}"
Width="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Value}"
Margin="0,0" ></Rectangle>
2) Have a textbox following the top of the moving part to indicate a value - I have no idea how to do this
3) Make the whole control an arc, so that it looks like a fuel gauge - I know i can transform it,skew, size it whatever, but not warp it.
thx alot guys

template
grid
background
viewbox
grid with 100

Hello,
I am new to silverlight.
I am planning to develope a Medical Imaging DICOM Viewer with one of the open source java api (say Image J).
And i am just thinking of Silverlight for the development of the UI part of the viewer.
Is the java api can be used in the Silverlight.SDK?
What about the rendering from other platform inputs?
Thanks in advance
Robin..

If your java API is exposed via a web service, then yes, you can easily call this directly in your Silverlight code.
If your Java API is not a web service, then, AFAIK, we don't have anyway to directly access them in Silverlight.

Could you please explain what you mean by 'other platform inputs'?

Hey guys, I was wondering, that almost 90% of Video on the web is in flash. How will that video be converted into HTML 5. Also, are there any good HTML Video editing tools.

This is the wrong forum for this question.
A better bet to get an answer would have been to post this question in the Quick Answers section.

Look, I appreciate that you want this information handed to you on a plate, but you were removed from the boards yesterday from posting exactly this type of question. You might want to do a simple Google search on this, and save people asking to remove you.

I didn't insult you, nor did I 1 vote you, so I can only assume that you 1 voted me in revenge for some perceived slight. I was trying to point out to you that people complained about you yesterday for posting exactly this type of post and your account was removed then. Repeating the behaviour today isn't going to endear you to people, now is it?
But hey, if you want to cry like a little girly, that's your perogative; although you might want to consider that you have just dissed the one person who answered your questions yesterday. That's not exactly a smart move.
If you don't have access to google, why not search MSDN? After all, Microsoft invented the technology.

I want to have my application pop up a dialog or another form do display a lot of check boxes and return the condition of the check boxes...
I was just wondering how I could do this using "best practices".
So far I think I'm looking at a child window of a custom dialog? Where should I go?

your question is partly confusing... it seems to be a "Winform" question (the previous UI toolset of .NET, before WPF), yet you ask the WPF forum!
A quick answer to both:
in winform Form have this method
public class Form
{
public DialogResult ShowDialog();
public DialogResul DialogResult { get; set; }
....
}
and in WPF Window have this method
public class Window
{
public bool? ShowDialog();
public bool? DialogResult { get; set; }
....
}
Take your pick, use one. ShowDialog() is blocking until the window is closedA train station is where the train stops. A bus station is where the bus stops. On my desk, I have a work station....

yes SORRY.. lol, i thought WF meant winform... so maybey your confused about the forum? its name is (WPF / WCF / WF)
besides, I found out how noob I was, I simply had my main form launch another form giving its self as a parameter... problem solved!!!

Man before you say some thing be sure that you are right...
WF does not mean winform... It means Work Flow...
Have u ever heard the name of Work Flow..

"lol, i thought WF meant winform" yea reading my post it does really read like I think your wrong... I should sit back and reread my posts
No, I meant to show that that was probably a misconception by me... sorry for coming off as rude...
Once again I'm aware I am a noob, and my formal education is limited intro c++ (sorting, recursion, ect)
I'm coding a GUI for an SQL database for my families business, and I would love professional input..., so once again I just want to reiterate, I KNOW you know more than me, throw me some direction.
The reason I'm using Windows forms and not WPF is that I couldn't use the dataGridView object (at least as far as I know). What direction should I use to display SQL data with WPF with data-binding? I want the data to resemble excel for this particular database table.
