In my project, onrowEditing is inside the childgrid. The parentgrid doesnot have onrowEditing.In this case, is it possible to find the id of childgrid inside onrowEditing method?
Thanks in Advance

I hope i understand you right.
The row-editing event passes an object as first parameter, its usually named "sender". This
is the grid raising that event. So you could cast that object to the type of your grid and
do anything you want with it. You could also retrieve the id by using YourGrid.ClientID.

Dear all,
I have a rdlc report using matrix. The number of columns varies in the runtime as per the data and it is just getting extended to right with horizontal scroll bars. Because of this the report viewing is difficult and printout/export options are also misbehaving. I would like to fit it to a page by limiting the number of columns appearing in a page and showing the balance columns which are yet to be shown (and other related fixed column information) in the next page, so that the report is legible for reading as well as printing/exporting to pdf.
I checked the web and could find out some workarounds only to fix the number of rows per page of the report. Is there any way to fix the number of columns in a matrix report to meet my requirements?
Thanks in advance
Binu

First thing is you can change the layout to Landscape for printing.
Now, since you are not aware of number of columns from before, matrix is being used. Thus the column numbers cannot be controlled. Though SSRS itself will display the possible columns in one page and rest in other. (Once the page height/Width & Interactive height/width is properly defined... W:11in & H:8.5in for landscape)

Thank you Sandeep for the quick response.
I think, such a requirement is very common and is available in other similar reporting tools like Crystal reports / Oracle report builder. (At least to fix the maximum width of the page so that the remaining columns along with the fixed columns will be spilled to the next page).
All our reports are rdlc's and we would like to standardise the reports in this platform itself. So basically do not want to switch over to Crystal or any other tools. Thats why I am exploring this.
Any other views?
Thanks and regards,
Binu

hi,
currently i m using asp.net 2005 (framework 2.0)
i m going to use the cookie for the 1st time in my project (its intranet productivity tool). i need some clarifications...
1. Can we go with Sessions or Cookies? which is best one?
2. If i set cookie expire time as 1 hour, then after 1 hour will it expire? OR every time when user using the application it will retain its time, so that when user didnt work for 1 hour it will get expire? which is right one.
3. Also i want to capture the applications logout time of individual user. so when session expire, can i get those values (say, loginID;team name;department name etc...) and update in my database table?
help me plz - KARAN

Karan_TN wrote: 1. Can we go with Sessions or Cookies? which is best one?
You can use either one.Better to go for Session because cookies might be disabled at some browser so may not work properly.
Karan_TN wrote: 2. If i set cookie expire time as 1 hour, then after 1 hour will it expire? OR every time when user using the application it will retain its time, so that when user didnt work for 1 hour it will get expire? which is right one.
One need to give specific time to Expires property so it will expire at that time only.So it doesn,t matter whether user works for an hour or not.These are called Persistent cookies , if you set the expires time then it will there in browsers memory and will be removed when one close the browser, these are called <code>Non Persistent cookies</code> and stored on Browser memory while persistent one stored in local hard disk.
for details in Cookies, have a look Beginner's Guide To ASP.NET Cookies
Karan_TN wrote: Also i want to capture the applications logout time of individual user. so when session expire, can i get those values (say, loginID;team name;department name etc...) and update in my database table?
For this, use session There is two method in Global.asax file one is Session_Start and another is Session_End .Session_Start is called whenevr any new session is getting created and Session_End is called whenever a session ends, so for your requirement you can use Session_End and you can get all those values that you said and can update in datatbase from here only.
Let me know if any issue

Small Correction Brij,
It should be "For details of Cookies " not ViewState

Hi,
i am trying to use a web control previously developed. The web control has been created a while ago and contains 4 -5 textboxes and an update button. The control
validates all the data against specific regular expressions and displays a message if the data is invalid data otherwise stores in db. The control is working in 2-3 other pages.
I want to re-use the same control but in a gridedittemplate. I can re-use the control and it seems to be working but the only problem is that if validation of data
fails, the grid collapses (probably because it assumes that the function has completed. i want the grid to remain in expanded mode, until the value is saved...
I am implementing my functionality as:
in .ascx page (my parent page is a control too) , i have a grid with a template which defines the control as visible = false
in itemcommand.
i make the control visible , which works great but on update button of this child control i want the parent grid to remain expanded
'Code from ItemCommand
Case Telerik.Web.UI.GridItemType.EditFormItem ' in template edit form
Dim item As Telerik.Web.UI.GridEditFormItem = e.Item
lblError.Visible = True
Try
Select Case LCase(e.CommandName)
Case "performinsert"
'add new
Session("ProductAttribute") = attribute
item.FindControl("AttributeControl").Visible = True 'the control that i make visible.
e.Canceled = True 'so that the control remains visible,
'the control has some textboxes, validation and update button. on update button, this grid collapses to initial state.
'i dont want it to collapse
Exit Sub
Case "update"
'TODO: implement update functionality
End Select
An idea/ or code snippet on how to solve this issue will be appreciated..
Thanks and regards

In our application, the user registeration taking 5 pages the user is moving through and filling data.
Suppose when user is reached to the last page(no. 5), the user can returns back to the first no. 1 page. For that, we want to disable user coming back to that first no.1 page, we want to control the back button and redirect it to a particular page
|

If you perform a search for this topic you will find many resources. Generally, you need to set a variable of some sort, perhaps a session variable, and check it in the page load and redirect if necessary.

Using JavaScript you can go back or forward in the browser's navigation history. Most of the time you want to go back one page. For doing that, use the following code:
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
history.go(-1);
</script>
|
|
|
|
|
string msg = "You cannot select more seats.";
System.Text.StringBuilder sb = new System.Text.StringBuilder();
sb.Append("<script type='text/javascript'>");
sb.Append("window.onload=function(){");
sb.Append("alert('");
sb.Append(msg);
sb.Append("')};");
sb.Append("</script>");
ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this,typeof(Page), "alert", sb.ToString(),false);
i tried to display the dialog box on click event of a button in update panel......but its leading to a runtime error that i'm unable to debug....please if anyone can have a look at the code and tell me if there is an error....also tell me any other necessary property of scriptmanager or update panel that i need to set
....i'm using this thing for the first time....so not much familiar with the procedure.
|
|
|
|
|
So if you want to show the message on button click then why you assigned the function to window.onload event,I just tried your code and put it Page_Load and it was showing the alert message...
So if you want to run it on button click the use the code below
string msg = "You cannot select more seats.";
System.Text.StringBuilder sb = new System.Text.StringBuilder();
sb.Append("<script type='text/javascript'>");
sb.Append("function ShowAlert(){");
sb.Append("alert('");
sb.Append(msg);
sb.Append("'); return false;};");
sb.Append("</script>");
ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, typeof(Page), "alert", sb.ToString(), false);
and button should be as
<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" OnClientClick="javascript:return ShowAlert();" />
let me know if face any issue.

Hi Brij....
Thanks for your reply...
actually i'm counting the number of buttons clicked by user with the value contained in a session variable....and when the no of clicks cross that value then i wanna display the alert message....if i'll put it on "onclientclick" property then how can i get the condition checked ??
