On the MSDN forums, there are an increasing number of answers where the post consists of a link to a StackOverflow thread. I don't know how they do it but when you google on specific keywords, there's a StackOverflow thread in the first 10 results.
The CP forums/Q-A sub-site is not as well indexed on Google for some reason. Nor are the MSDN forums for that matter. I wonder what SO is doing that gives them the higher Google ranking.

I have noticed that recently (the last week or so I think) that my Author rep seems to be increasing but without anyone voting on my articles/tips and me not posting any either.
Not sure if this a bug or not - are we getting rep for views or something similar?

Wouldn't that be great?

It would certainly add a popularity rather than quality element to the rep which may or may not be a good thing depending on your point of view. I'll stay on the fence for now!

Maybe some of the 1-votes are removed when their owner-accounts got deleted?

Possibly, but then the articles average/tip average score would have changed too which doesn't seem to have happened (unless there's some caching somewhere)

I've never seen delays, with one exception: browsing forums shows message votes with a delay (I'd say max 1 minute), i.e. the vote count goes up and down as different servers deliver the same page.

Hm, I don't think Dave is a popular target for 1-votes, but yes it is a possibility: if a low vote gets somehow removed, and a high vote gets added, author rep would rise, vote count would not change.

I keep my head down (i.e. out of the Back Room and SB), I'm not very active in the lounge although I visit it several times a day and I tend to keep away from flame wars. I just can't be bothered to deal with confrontation in my 'leisure' time here on CP - not my idea of fun!

That's what I meant, and I do pretty much the same.
FWIW: I think some or all of the back rooms have been disarmed.

Dave, I haven't noticed anything special on my own author rep (and I think I would have if there were some anomaly), and I can't see anything special on yours either.
You probably remember we both have updated our T&Ts on John's instigation, around May 22, when Chris added a description line. That made them feature (again) on the CP home page, probably leading to new views and votes. Although that was more than 2 weeks ago, I would venture it as the cause of what you now see happening.
An alternative would be a bug in T&T, where my activity is pretty low, while yours isn't. Maybe adding/editing comments yields author rep without being listed in the rep FAQ table.

That would make sense, although that would be better in Authority if I understand the groupings correctly.

Jim Crafton brought up an interesting point - the Reputation Points/Graph doesn't include man points.
I think this is a rather egregious omission and should remedied forthwith.

there is no end to the list of missing categories: courage, sacrifice, quality, creativity, originality, wit, civility, W&KS safety, etc. etc. I'm afraid the hamsters can't cope with all that, they seem quite busy keeping the mills going as it is.

I hear by nominate you to keep track of everyone's man points and update the reputation points for each member
|
|
|
|
|
And Chris won't let my implement Matthew points. You get points for just being ME
|
|
|
|
|
There is, however, the heisenberg-like issue that if you check your man-points, then you automatically lose man-points. If you are checking another man's man-points then you lose double.
It's made testing, well, difficult. Especially since actually testing code itself results in loss of man points.

I don't know what the TechEd keynote speaker has been telling you, Chris, however please consider the possibility you misunderstood it somehow. Testing, locating bugs and fixing them still earns you all kinds of points, don't let MS sales people tell you otherwise.
