How to configure Sql-Server Express over network so that my software can access that database from another machice
plz help

This MSDN article[^] may be helpful. I spent days trying to find this information when I installed it; this item hadn't been written yet.
In a nutshell, you use the SQL Server Management tool to grant permissions for each user, then the Configuration tool to enable protocols and ports. For security I keep my local network address enabled for TCP/IP, and the public Internet address disabled.

Same as any other version of Windows, by using REGSVR32. The only difference is you need admin privs to do it.

hi all,
i use windows server 2008 r2 in my work and there is a file modified by a user, how i can know the user that modify the file.
and how to see the history of file modified.
thanks all

The only thing you can do is look at the person who owns the file. There is no log of who modifies a file nor what they did to it.

How about audit feature in windows server?
|
|
|
|
|
Yeah, but auditing also generates a TON of data that's completely useless to the goal at hand.

First I installed SQL Server 2008 without too much of a problem. The service is running and all but now I need a way to create db's, run queries, etc, etc.
AFter trying to follow this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=08e52ac2-1d62-45f6-9a4a-4b76a8564a2b&displaylang=en#Instructions[^]
I installed all the steps then after downloading the 'SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe' file, when I run it it launches the Sql Server 2008 R2 setup again. OK ... weird !!!!!!!
OK so perhaps I need to install an extra feature to an existing version of MSSQLSERVER, but when I get to that stage in the setup process it says No Instance ID (it is rquired) but there's no place to even enter one!
[^]
I just want to be able to create a db and some tables to test out SQL server with C# .Net - It's now taken me hours with no success so if anyone has tips / advice to get it working would greatly appreciate it !!
thx

From what I can tell, that file is SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Management Studio Express ; so, yes, you would be installing SQL Server a second time.

Thanks, seems nothing is working.
I had Sql Server 2008 Evaluation version installed (not express) and then SQL management studio setup which seemed to install everything only then when I ran sql config manager no instances of the server showed up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok I'll be trying the express version WITH management studio ... 4th time lucky I hope !!!!!!!

I'm running a bunch of websites on IIS6, we recently decieded that it would be worth getting a wild card cert. we have 2 main domains aaa and bbb for simplicity, we installed *.bbb.com a week or two ago and secured a bunch of sub domains with it. now since it worked we ordered *.aaa.com and i just started securing all of aaa's sub domains. i've been adding entries into the metabase already, i've double and triple checked everything so have 2 others.
in IIS everything says *.aaa.com as the ssl cert, when i navigate to any of the aaa sub domains, like https://app.aaa.com it gives me a cert error that says domain mismatch, i view the certificate in IE 8 and it says *.bbb.com instead of *.aaa.com. i've checked everything in IIS and when i click 'View Cert' in the IIS property page it says *.aaa.com.
One wildcard worked fine, is there something special i have to do to run two of them? they are on different IPs both public and private.
Any help would be appreciated, i imagine it something small i'm overlooking.
<EDIT>
We got it fixed, possible solutions include waiting a bit after the cert is installed before trying to use it, and possibly or, If another sub domain is already secured on the given IP change it first then change the rest of the sites on that IP to be secured. you'll still have to add all the bindings for each site into the metabase.
Dont know if what we did actually helps but it works now. If anyone has other opinions or facts feel free to post em.

I do not think so, see the explanation here[^]. If you want extra information you will have to find some way of displaying it yourself.

When I connect to a machine (through RDC, VNC, PCAnywhere or any other such remoting application) is there any system setting I can check to know if the machine I'm connected to is a virtual machine or an actual physical one?
Thanks,

Nope. You can try to gleen it from the devices installed though. You can get that using WMI queries.
