The idea was that we assumed your interests in QA would be the same as your interests in Articles and your interests in other areas, hence we made it so when you set your preferences in one area they will persist everywhere.
We have a TODO item that will be completed soon that will allow you to set these preferences in one place, and we're also revisiting the whole persistence thing. To me it seems a convenience. To others I guess it's a little confusing. c'est la via.

Went to view this new posting:

Wanted to read the comments/feedback, but clicking on them does nothing more than highlight the link.
I am usin Google Chrome 5.0.375.86
I did check your list-o-known-bugs, but didn't see this listed.

That's truly messed up.
Let me play with it (read: get out a large spanner)

Same issue here, with the same version of Chrome. Might be browser-specific. Getting the same issue intermittently on lounge threads too... Haven't figured out exactly what triggers it.
Tom's workaround is effective, though obviously not ideal.

Pinning a message to make it remain open when viewing a response no longer works.
I get the icon in Chrome, but it does nothing except close the post and switch to the pinned icon.
I don't even get the icon in IE8!

I'm using IE8 and can pin every message in the board.
Tested in Chrome 5 and all works fine for me there too.
I can't even suggest a Ctrl+F5 because the script is inline, not an external file.
I'm stumped, mainly because I can't replicate it

I'm a bit stumped too - I tried first thing this morning, and it worked. Then I tried again, and it doesn't! So I tried with IE8 and still no icon - it must be some odd configuration setting on my machine, but I'm buggered if I can work out what. I tried Ctrl-F5 anyway, but no change. Would you mind if I took a look at the JS code to try and guess which setting it might be?

When clicking the thread, Postback occurs. From today it happens to me.

try surfing lots of stuff or while you are downloading try to access threaded forum. When the page is half loaded then click a thread, there will be a postback!
When the connection is slow and page is not completely loaded, clicking any thread does a postback!

It's an old issue which people with slow internet connection face!

Chris,
Much better locaton for the MySettings now, although a couple of styling issues.
I have CTRL + F5'd several times.
1) My Watched Items is always bold
2) Click My Watched Items and then click View All Discussion Forums, and the 'username' and the My Settings menu items compress to a different font.
[Edit: Does this on Chrome 5.0.375.86 and IE8 8.0.7600.16385]

I see this too.

This was not reproducible for me.

I get the same results with FF 3.5.10.
Also in point 2 the menu items are centred in the drop down.
[edit]But I agree it's much more logical now, and generally looks better.[/edit]
It's time for a new signature.

By design

Fixed. A Ctrl+F5 will force the change through earlier than waiting for caching to expire

Easy bug, huh?
I am nothing special; of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts, and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough. - The Notebook
