Yes it is inconsistent. However I doubt the breadcrumb thingy is useful at all in the forums; it basically allows you:
- to get home (click Bob for that)
- to get the forum list (it is in the left pane already)
- to see where you are (the title tells you that)
So I see it as a waste of real-estate.

I find it convenient when I am in a forum and have replied to a message already. Sometimes I'll leave a reply, go get metaphorical coffee, then come back and I'll want to refresh the page to see if there are new posts in the current forum. Because posting a message causes the browser to update the URL with a permalink to the posted message, refreshing the page will scroll down and open the message I just posted, which is not what I want. I could also scroll down the left of the page to find the forum I'm currently in and click that to refresh the page, but that takes time to search through all those links. Or I can modify the URL to get rid of all the permalink junk, but that is slow and I rather like clicking. What I like to do in the C# forum is click the "C#" in the breadcrumb to have the page refresh... since it is conveniently located and there are no other links around it, I can easily find it. Can't do that in "Coding Horrors" and some other forums. Would be nice if I could. And nothing wrong with a consistent look on each page.

There is a 'refresh' link at the top of each forum, in the forum header

Last couple of days I've had some intermittent problems pasting a URL link into the message edit page.
Here are details on the most recent occurence:
using FF3.0, answering a question in C# forum, happened to be served by Web24, I try and convert a word I already had typed (and selected) into a hyperlink; all it did was replace the word by the URL.
Tried again without anything selected, the hyperlink appears in its dual format (readable URL, and arrowed URL to a new window/tab). Tried again with a word selected (spaces on both ends not included), no dice, the word gets replaced by the URL. Tried an unselected one again, works great.
Happy Hunting.

I too have had this, but found that it is not consistant.
I think some of the servers treat it differently from others.
Presumably the Hamsters are already aware.

which is why I mention the server ID, unless I forget to do so...

It is late, and between reading and typing I was busy forgetting

The servers treat this all the same - it's all .NET server side code with no IIS subtleties.
You probably experienced a problem with timeouts. We've been mucking about with new backup strategies and these have been causing extra load.

Frankly I don't think so, I didn't experience significant delays.
I'll try and report more details if and when it happens again.

To convince yourself, take a look at the javascript on the page when rendered from different servers. Unless we've screwed up a deployment sync (which, if we had, would be spewing errors) the javascript is identical.

No no, you misread me. I am not implying it is different on different servers. It was DD who suggested such.
All I'm saying is it happens occasionally, and I documented one mishap on Web24.

I didn't suggest that, I merely pointed out that if you F5 and get a different server the problem tends to disappear.
I have done no forensic investigation as to the cause, merely highlight the empirical evidence of effect.

I have also had this problem recently, mainly on Q&A but also once in the other forums. I will monitor and report back on further occurrences.
It's time for a new signature.

Just had some more of the same:
while composing this[^] message, a foreign link was easily pasted in dual-link format when nothing was selected, and systematically failed to paste-and-replace when the word "here" was typed and selected first. No delays were observed.

When pasting links in quick answers using firefox (version 3.6.9 if it matters) it often skips one or more characters at the end, making the link useless. It happens kind of often and check the links most of the time.

I'm using FF most of the time and never encountered that.
If you want to signal this to the site administrators, it would be better to create a new thread (so they get a notification), rather than appending it to my old thread (causing me to get an e-mail, I can't fix it for you).

There seems to be something wrong with editing and versions of a question.
Take a look at this question
http://www.codeproject.com/Questions/104892/Web-site-design-screen-size.aspx[^]
I edited and changed 'dome' to 'done'.
Checked the minor edit and submitted.
Then noticed the small i and edited again to 'I'.
Again checked the minor edit.
But now the question says there are 4 revisions. When checking these revisions I only see 3 (after pressing 'show minor edits') 2 done by the author and only one by me.
Also when comparing the revision 2 and 3 it says that that is the one where the 'dome' got changed to 'done'. In revision 3 the 'i' is still small.
Between revision 1 and 2 it says there are no changes.
So it would seem that the last update isn't being shown yet has been applied.
The final result however show both 'done' and 'I'.

Also, are you getting editing points yet?

Nope
I'm stuck at 165, should be well a little bit more (not much since I do tend to click the minor edit checkbox most of the time )
But it has been confirmed as a bug so I'm sure somewhere in the near future it will be fixed and the points will be recalculated.
Right after those other 300 bugs on the list

K that explains the fact that there is no difference between revision 1 and 2
But still I edited it twice and only 1 is shown yet both edits are applied.

Yeah for some reason it's not showing the latest revision on that page. Thanks for the report. I'll add it to the bug list.

I deselected the filters and saved it. Then, I went back to Q & A. Can't see a question. I have tried Ctrl + F5 but no help. Is it just me or there is something wrong?
