From MSDN:lpResult: Address of a buffer to receive the file name when the function returns. You're passing result which is just an uninitialized pointer, it's not a buffer nor is it pointing at a buffer.

Hi folks!
I have a really stupid problem (maybe it is totally easy to solve an I just don't get it):
I created a dlg based application with MFC, with some controls in it. One is an edit-control. And now I want that the user can enter text *with tab stops* in the edit control. But naturally the dialog manager interprets all presses of the tab key as the desire to switch focus... Now I'm totally stuck. I ovverode PreTranslateMessage, trapped WM_KEYDOWN, checked wether the editcontrol has focus, checked for VK_TAB and if these conditions were met, I send a WM_CHAR to the edit control instead of calling the base-class (pseudocode):
PreTranslateMessage(message){
if(message == WM_KEYDOWN)
if(message.wParam == VK_TAB)
if(myEdit.HasFocus)
myEdit.SendMessage(WM_CHAR,'\t');
else
CDialog::PreTranslateMessage(message);
}
But the whole effect was generating some strange behaviour...(I also tried sending a WM_KEYDOWN,WM_CHAR,WM_KEYUP but same effect)
Is there some other solution to this problem??
Cheers
TIA
have a nice second advent

In terms of the extended properties for files (in windows 2000) is there some way to extract them via C++.
The method should be:
1. Able to access the "Category" and "Comments" properties at least.
2. Not restricted to MS-only file types (like .doc etc)
Any word would be grand !

Hi,
I'd like to do some FTP stuff without the use of WinINet. I'd like to do all the stuff myself. Could somebody guide me to some site that has more info concerning this? Thank you very much

Well, I recommend you to study the FTP RFC (dunno what number it is) and send all commands using TCP/IP. There are a lot samples here at codeproject.

Bare-ass Winsock or Berkeleys sockets is the way to go. I recently made a simple FTP client application after spending ages try to get Wininet to connect to 2 servers simultaneously, only to find out that it didn't support it. I was trying to get Server->Server transfers working so it was a bit of a pain for me, but using Winsocks it wasn't too much of a struggle.

Thanks, that's kind of what I was looking for. I looked up the RFC too but 69 pages is too much. Thanks

Hello,
Imagine a Client/Server chat program.
How the Server listen to clients for their requests for connecting them to it ?
I know there is Listen() function in MFC socket classes.
But where should i use it ?
Is there any special message in MFC socket classes for listening ?
Thanks in Advance !

Well, if you use MFC you simply need to call Listen() once after you have set up your socket with Create() and Bind().
Once your app is in listen mode you'll get notified about incoming client connections through the OnAccept() notification of your CSocket-derived class

The cursor doesn't change voer any of my windows in a MFC MDI app.
(MDI Child windows, other windows ive created)
I mean, if I put mouse over border to resize it, and then quickly move mouse over the window, the resize cursor stays.
I just wait it to change to the arrow cursor...
MSDN says that the default implementation of the cursor change message is to change to the arrow... why is it not working?

Try to implement an answer for message WM_SETCURSOR in your child frame (have a look to CWnd::OnSetCursor in MSDN).

It stays the same
I just wanna laugh again

How can I Invalidate() all views in a MFC MDI app?
|
|
|
|
|
|
This doesn't even repaint the current view...
|
|
|
|
|
OK, nevermind that, that was my bad.
But what I need to do is repaint all views of all documents
|
|
|
|
|
AfxGetMainWnd()->Invalidate() is one way.

I tried, but that didn't seem to update any windows? Hmm maybe I did it a bit wrong.. I'll see...
Nope, doesn't effect the child windows...

Hi,
I have a windows handle which is returned by third party lib, this handle sometimes is valid, sometimes isn't. I want to know whether there is method or function to judge the validity of a handle?
Thanks,
