yes, now i got the point.
visual studio is connected to tfs with the view of source control and the underlying database.
a project created in visual studio can be opened in expression blend to improve upon the interface and provide good graphics.
but the fact is after enhancing the windows or web applications the changes and newly created files have to be saved back to TFS db
and source controlled.
so expression blend by plugging into TFS, takes the latest version from TFS and saves the modification back to TFS.

I have a Windows Service which manages an OutLook 2003 inbox. The service filter the mailitems using dasl queries, and the problem comes when unexpectedly goes out of order. The filter returns now null instead of Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook._MailItem.
Here is the dasl query i use to filter the inbox:
@SQL=(urn:schemas:httpmail:displayto like '%Altamira%' AND urn:schemas:httpmail:textdescription <> 'Mesena' AND urn:schemas:httpmail:textdescription <> 'Aportucasa') OR (urn:schemas:httpmail:displayto like '%altamira%' AND urn:schemas:httpmail:textdescription <> 'Mesena' AND urn:schemas:httpmail:textdescription <> 'Aportucasa')
And this is the code i use to filter the _mailitem the filter function returns:
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Items oMailItems = outlookNS.GetDefaultFolder(Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.OlDefaultFolders.olFolderInbox).Items;
oMailItems.Sort("[ReceivedTime]", false);
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook._MailItem oMailItem = oMailItems.Find(sFilter) as Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook._MailItem;
while (oMailItem != null)
{
if (DoMailActions(oMailItem))
TrataMailProcesado(oMailItem, backupbox);
oMailItem = oMailItems.FindNext() as Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook._MailItem;
}
(This code works in a machine that, i, crashed last week, so i figure out that is a configuration problem. But i don't know which one.)
If i use the filter option in Outlook 2003 and i try the dasl query then works perfectly, so.... i don't know what's wrong.
Any replies are welcome.

I’m trying to get the answer to this question (subject line). The doc on SqlConnection says
“Any public static (Shared in Visual Basic) members of this type are thread safe. Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe.”
Which leads me to believe that the constructor is not thread safe. Just wondering if anybody sees this differently.

IMO constructors aren't thread-safe, nothing is unless special precautions are taken, and then it gets documented as in "Any public static ...". However, how could this be relevant for constructors, assuming they don't modify their optional parameters?
|
|
|
|
|
A constructor for sure could be thread-unsafe.
Imagine a class foo like this:
public class foo
{
private static Dictionary<foo> allInstances = new Dictionary<foo> ();
public foo()
{
allInstances.Add(this);
}
}
That .Add would not be safe. Unless for some reason .Net will not simultaneously create two instances of the same class at the same time. But I doubt that.

Thanks, I know how things become thread-unsafe.
.NET does not mind two or more constructors running concurrently.
The SqlConnection constructor gets reflectored like so:
public SqlConnection()
{
this.ObjectID = Interlocked.Increment(ref _objectTypeCount);
GC.SuppressFinalize(this);
this._innerConnection = DbConnectionClosedNeverOpened.SingletonInstance;
}
and DbConnectionClosedNeverOpened looks like a typical singleton implementation.
Are you just curious, or are you having a particular problem? If so, you might have to expand on it (including .NET verion) in order to get a more effective answer.

Not just curious... I want to know if I need to synchronize execution of new SqlConnection(). With threading issues, it's hard to know if you done it wrong, since it may only fail when conditions are just so.
I doubt that the .net version matters, but let's say 3.5.

After some more reflection, I think constructors should always be thread-safe by default (i.e. if they aren't, it should be documented explicitly), and I expect .NET Framework classes to adhere to such rule. The MSDN statement "Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe." IMO applies to the safety with respect to the current object, i.e. don't have two threads call methods on the same object at the same time.

That sounds reasonable. Thanks.

Hi,
With respect to support products for TFS like SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft Share Point,
do I need to request for separate installation or does TFS come with adequate in-built
support for the two?
Similarly for Team Explorer.
Similarly for Microsoft Solution Framework(MSF).
Is there an installation guide for ALM? If there is please share with me.

Hello all,
I am not sure where to post this so I am starting here and hoping for the best. I have a public and private key generated for .net. I sent gave the public key to a third party and they used it to encrypt passwords in a database. I downloaded the encrypted passwords and now I need to decrypt them on my end. The issue comes in when it has to be decrypted on a unix server. I do not care if I use php, java or any other language as long as it works on the unix box. I am a complete rookie to RSA keys and would appreciate any help or even a direction on where I "should" post this. Thanks in advance....

Hi, I couldn't find anything like this googling.
I'm looking for a class in .NET (preferably C#). I have experience programming under .NET so I would say my current level of knowledge is intermediate.
Thanks!

None of these[^] fit the bill?

What is this class expected to do?

I have a column called bookedhalls, the value will be stored as Balaji-A,Balaji-C, i written select query as follows
Select * from function where bookedhalls like '%Balaji-A,Balaji-C,%
by using this i will get the row.
Suppose if i give '%Balaji-C,Balaji-A,% i cannot get the row. How to get that row by using
Balaji-C,Balaji-A. Anybody knows please reply.

I don't know what this has to do with .NET, it looks more like a Database question.

Your database is not designed correctly if you are storing multiple pieces of data in one column. BookedHalls should probably be a separate table. So the functions table has all the other details of the function including an ID. Then the bookedHalls table has the function ID in it. Then you say select * from function where functionID in (select functionID from bookedHalls where hallName like '%Balaji-A%' or hallName like '%Balaji-C%').
And actually even that is sloppy database design. There should be a halls table and it should contain a hallID, then the bookedHalls would have just a functionID and a hallID. That way your application can have a drop-down with all of the valid halls. And if you got fancy you could even do lookups to make sure a hall isn't in use for a function at the same time.
This kind of thing is referred to as data normalization. You should study it if you are going to create databases.
Please read the guidelines on how to ask a question. That subject line is awful.

Hi,
I have one more question on VSTS.
Was it really necessary to come up with multiple editions of VSTS like architecture, development, test instead of just one team suite which comprises of all.
Was it because of size.
or is it for the scenario where architects do only designing, developers only code and build and testers only test ... and so based on the role, they need to install only the necessary edition?

The cynic in me says that it's because of pricing.

I think someone at MSHQ just got carried away with big team mentality. VS 2010 has a much simpler model where the price scales up with the scope of the install, with a separate track for dedicated testers.
It's all about the money really.

Hi,
VSTS is a ----------- for managing development on the microsoft .net platform.
Can I say 'VSTS is a means'. I am not sure if I can say 'VSTS is a product' or 'VSTS is a tool' because
it is an integration of products / tools isn't?

It is the collection of tools for development, not just managing development, so try the following:
"VSTS represents extended versions of Visual Studio .NET. It includes a set of collaboration and development tools for software development process."
