I was previously developing an application using vb6 with some third party COMS. Now that I plan to upgrade to vb.net, I find that these COMs no longer works. Is there any way to make them work, short of looking for updated versions of these COMs( some of these third party companies are no longer operational)
Thanx

Hi,
yes you can reuse them,you need to create a COM runtime wrapper for them which can then be used as a proxy to your original COM objects.
Use the "tlbimp.exe" tool which comes with Visual Studio .NET like this,
tlbimp oldcom.dll /out:oldcom.asm.dll
then you add a reference to the oldcom.asm.dll file to your .NET app.

In fact, if you use VS.Net you dont even need to do this manually as by referencing a COM componant VS will notice what you are trying to do and do this for you...

under what circumstances will the call to the API fail? what are the common cause for this to happen? thanks.
I am definitely sure that i have my QuickCAM installed on my Windows 2000 Adv Srv. But calls to this API fails for some reason (ie. return 0).
Any idea?

I'm working on a VB.net app which requires drag and drop between a ListView control and a Treeview control. The problem is that the selected node in the treeview control doesn't seem to change when I'm hovering over them with the item dragged.
I can't even seem to make this happen programmatically since I can't find a way to get the tree node that the cursor is hovering over (no e.Node in mouseover event
How can I make this work?
Also, I can't select a nodes by right clicking on them. I need this to display a popup menu specific to each node.
Please please help.

Sorry, can't help you there. I'm familiar with these controls in vb6 but haven't reach that far it .net . Have you tried looking in MSDN?

I looked in MSDN and found the member function GetNodeAt(Drawing.Point) of the treeview control.
Sorry to have bugged you people.
Should have looked there first.

Hi,
I don't know if this is the correct forum, but let's try...
I have some componente written in VB.Net that is called by ASP pages.
All of them works fine except for one that gives me the "class doesn't support automation" error message. The only help that I've got was "try to contact the application vendor"...
Running it interactively, I have another error message that I'm trying to work around ("The root transaction wanted to commit, but transaction aborted"), but this is a ContextUtil problem.
All the components have the same imports and inherits clauses and same properties in the packages. Any clue?
Thanks in advance,
Molina.

Does anyone know a way to capture a process? What I need to do is when a link is executed capture the link from the process. If possible, to then stop the process before it is fully executed.
I am running a utility which detects for links to other documents ete..I am using this utility to detect links in a certain program which cannot be found programatically through VBA( believe me i've tried! ). So the only other way I can think of is to execute the link, capture the process hopefully with the link and stop it before it fully executes.
Any ideas????
Kind Regards,
Rhys.

hi,
i am using listview control in vb6.
i want to trap event for double clicking on a listview row or item and then open a form. how do i go about it?
|
|
|
|
|
Hi,
Place the listbox control on your form and give it a name. Then double click the listbox and you will be taken into the code window. At the top of the events window you have 2 drop down boxes; the right hand list is the events list. If you click on this list you will see that below "Click" is "DblClick". You now have the double click event for your list box.
With regards to opening a form there are numerous ways, this simplist being "Form1.Show". You should do a bit of reading of books as there are many ways of doing this depending on your purpose....
Kind Regards,
Rhys.

Rishabh,
Before you go around branding people "idiots" perhaps you should find out what kind of an idiot you are talking to...A+, MCP, MCAD. It was a genuine mistake that I mis-read your post and your attitude towards my mistake clearly shows your intellect; as a result I shall not post the answer you require.
I shall however point you in the direction of some website which might help you in your request; I do not see why I should answer your problem.

And please leave your childish comments for the teletubbies forums.

Hello,
Is it possible to programatically change a folders properties? For example, I have a DFS folder which is currently active on a particular server, I want to be able to change the active server to another without opening up the Properties dialog box. Can this be done in VB6?
Or as another example,
I have a folder "C:\Test" which is not currently shared. Can I programatically change the folders properties so that it is now shared(providing I pass all the correct info) without using the Properties dialog?
My reason is we run on Win2K machines with some 'lockeddown' machines. Certain tabs in the Properties are not viewable to the 'lockeddown' user but I would like to change some settings every now... any ideas or help is appreciated.

Hi !!!
My app, in VB6, is creating a thread to launch a batch file and waiting on this thread to be finished.
Here is the code :
Dim l_lRet As Long
Dim l_lCreationFlags As Long
Dim l_recStartupInfo As STARTUPINFO
Dim l_recProcInfo As PROCESS_INFORMATION
Dim l_recProcAttr As SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES
Dim l_recThreadAttr As SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES
l_recProcAttr.nLength = Len(l_recProcAttr)
l_recThreadAttr.nLength = Len(l_recThreadAttr)
l_recStartupInfo.cb = Len(l_recStartupInfo)
l_recStartupInfo.dwFlags = STARTF_USESHOWWINDOW
l_recStartupInfo.wShowWindow = SW_NORMAL
l_lCreationFlags = HIGH_PRIORITY_CLASS
If CreateProcess(vbNullString, "C:\MyBatch.bat", l_recProcAttr, l_recThreadAttr, False, l_lCreationFlags, 0&, "C:\", l_recStartupInfo, l_recProcInfo) Then
'Wait
WaitForSingleObject l_recProcInfo.hProcess, INFINITE
l_lRet = CloseHandle(l_recProcInfo.hProcess)
End If
My problem is that in the batch file, I lose all environnement variables (Path, SystemRoot), and I have no idea why, because in MSDN, it says that the new process should use the environnement variables from the creator of the process.
Anyone could help me on this point ?
Thank you !
Jerome

HI,
I have a problem of trying to store URL and retrieving it. I am currently working on a web browser. However I want to be able to control what URL is to be stored using the web browser so as to facilitate offline browsing and faster loading time if I visit the URL again.
Another problem is how am I able to retrieve the stored URL? Does anyone know how to do in visual basic or there is a close reference to it. Thank you.

Sure. It's called Internet Explorer.
