Hi
Do you have a good contact or address to recommend for a senior software egr in the China or HK area?
I'm just going out of a bad professional experience in Shenzhen, but the mentioned area is so great on many other aspects that I would like to stay around...
Thanks,
Eric

I'm assuming you mean education-wise, not career-wise.
My 2 cents, get some experience with C#, C++, and database design. And learn as much as you can on your own--design techniques, modeling, applications, etc.

Hi,
I just moved to Atlanta. I have 5yrs experience in development. I came here to find a job. Does anyone know any job sites that are related to Atlanta (not monster.com !).
Actually, I'm getting a bit worried. I will start my job search tomorrow. How bad are things anyway ?? Is it as bad as everyone says??
The way people talk I think I will be unemployed for a year !! Is this at all true ??
Scared to death !!

The Job Market is really bad, I hope that you didn't move there just for the purpose of getting a job. Anyhow, search the web for Atlanta's online newspapers, they may have some jobs there. Get out and network with people as much as you can, that is the most effective way to land something.
Good Luck!

Hello, the CPians around the world.;)
As you know that Atlanta is the bigger city in the south area of USA,
CA or NW area is the better place to find the aggresive job.
One of my previous co-worker has moved to Seattle of WA to find the job.
If your target job is MFC related job, I found there are several jobs posted.
But, I found more same job postings in CA.
Please, don't send me your email about your programming questions directly.
However, if you believe that you gives me some benefits, you can send me your email.
Have a nice day!

Anyone can tell about the online MBA programs.... if u know any trust worthy site(where the degree is accepoted outside)... do help me...
|
|
|
|
|
i'd stick with big names if i were u. i mean, the whole point of doing this is to brand yourself and establish some networks. online MBA can offer neither.

The following Universities offer BS, MBA and MS degrees online, which are good, but dont take my word, do research on these and other universities:
www.umuc.edu ( University of Maryland)
www.Snhu.edu (Southern New Hampshire University)
www.worldcampus.psu.edu/imba (Penn State )
http://academics.uww.edu/business/onlinemba (University of Wisconsin)
http://www.uopdegreesonline.com (University of Phoenix )
There are a few other universities which offer masters and bachelors online. I have my friend who is doing his MS frm University of Maryland online. He is happy abt it. So please check the reviews + research on the universities.
One more point : If you are serious to study , you can study any where.. learning opportunities never ends.
Good Luck

This is like having a 7th grader come up to you and ask: Paul, I want to be rich one day, what should I become?
How do you answer that?
My point being we know nothing about your situation (other than "web development") so really cannot recommend much.
First off, much to "real developers" horror, "web development" is not just one field. It contains many sub-fields which you need to choose.
What do you want to do: Front-end web-dev? Back-end web-dev? Graphic design? Standards and accessibility consultancy? Search engine optimisation? Contingency consultancy?
As for certification only two of those sub-fields really have any kind of applicable certification. Back-end web-dev is really just client/server development so you could get a MCSD or something similar. Graphic design you need to find an art college or industrial design school and get cert. from them.
The other fields have no real certifications or courses to follow. Everything you learn is through experience, reading Zeldman and his band and figuring things out.
Also don't get certification just because you feel like it would be cool or something. If clients are demanding it before they work with you, then fine go get something.
I don't have any certifications and am doing quite fine. At the end of the day it is what you produce that counts, not how many doctorates you have on the wall.
So decide which field of web-dev you are into, then come ask again

First of all... thanks for the real good reply for the abstract question I posted. Hmmmm.... lotsa things I thought after reading the reply.
Basically, I do accept that 'getting certifiation' is not a must, and getting the work done is all what people honour. But, still, I wanted to get known something professional what Microsoft/Oracle/Cisco is telling people. And I guess you gave me the same answer what 90% of people told me... a MCSD.
I am not going to do it as a full term serious exam preparation. MCSD(?!?) will be a part time, thing that will get completed when I have good time and mood...
Thanks.....

Actually experience is the best thing to have, this will be more important than a certification. Some companies love people with certs. and some companies really don't care. A cert. will not hurt, but experience is crucial in this day and age.
Good Luck!

Just a quick question: Are there Microsoft exam discounts for Microsoft Certified Partners?
Microsoft UK said no, but local MCTs are saying yes.
(Then again when I phoned the MCP line for SA I was put through to the UK MCP support line... odd that, I thought MS thought SA was part of the Far East... )

MS SA is part of EMEA, I think. At least as far as MS is concerned.

Yeah, was just kidding there
I just love it when I see big corporates dividing the world up and putting some countries in the oddest divisions.
And Europe, Middle East and Africa is a rather large area

Paul, if you still haven't come right then send me details offline (you should still have my emaill address if you haven't thrown my CV away, yet ).
I'll forward it to one of the heavies at the Jhb office.
I'm sure they can make an arrangement in exchange for a case study or something...
Cheers,
Simon

I just want to get an idea on people's opinions of the MCSD .net. Would you hire someone with this qualification and do you think it is worth the enormous expense (£4000 in the UK).
