I don't think that reasonable. All that would do is perpetuate the insidious practice of anonymous univoting. Just because someone has sopted doesn't necessarily mean they will be biased. I often tops in threads that I have no feelings about at all. In fact I am more likely to ptos in threads of that kind.

Is there something about the word 'post' that upsets you, Henry?

Three different typos of the same word in one paragraph... That takes talent

I don't like this idea because the majority of readers are actually very low rep members. I don't see it as fair to disallow a new member the right to vote on something they really enjoy - what a buzz kill that is to try and award an author and have a "Sorry - you're not special enough" message come up.

That's an easy one to counter. Just don't show the voting option to users who can't vote. You can't miss what you dont know is there and is exactly how we handle the "edit" option elsewhere (ie, if you cant edit a question/answer you dont see the edit link - you dont see it and get a message "sorry you're not special enough to edit).

I'd certainly not be looking foward to all the "I see the article ratings but I can't see where to add my vote. What am I doing wrong?" messages.

Don't get me wrong... is there a problem with univoters?
I am not an author, so I can only speak about the forums. Here I don't see a real problem, occasionally I wonder about a low vote but think it's just normal to have one idiot among a crowd. Overall it balances out, right?

In the Lounge, yes - a mad univoter (or two) has been at large there for the last week or so targetting everything and everybody for no apparent reason...

We seem to be having a round of univoting trolling again. Normally I'd let this pass, but I think you might need to have a word with them in private.

I'm getting the feeling there is one or 2 people constantly creating new accounts and posting drivel in the lounge.
Why you may ask.
To many new posts from fresh members (less than 3 months old accounts), under normal circumstances most if not all posts there are from regulars.

Well I'v been countering the vote's you get.
My vote of 5 against ??? vote of 1 gives you a 3.67 so it averages out a bit

What's worse than the trolling are the accusations and assumptions that are arbitrarily thrown around. Yesterday someone assumed a nice polite member of being the troll, I had to interfere and clarify things up for people to leave him alone. Let's face it. Except for Chris (and other CP admins), we can only make guesses. So maybe it's best to keep any suspicions to ourselves.

That's why I'm asking Chris (or other admin) to have a word with them in private - they have the logs. If the person has been around for a while, I'd hope that a days foolishness could be overcome with a gentle prod rather than the nuclear option of a ban being touted. As I said in the lounge, they can downvote me all they like - I have a big enough reputation not to be worried about it; some of the people who've been targeted have less of a reputation cover. If they must target somebody, then take it out on me.

I don't really care much about the reputation points so let them down vote me as much as they want, it doesn't work anyway since more often than not a member with at least equal weight in voting comes along and balances the vote out.
So in fact the down-voters are really giving you more reputation points
In the past 4,5 years I'v been a member here I'v had one rule:
If I don't have anything meaningful / funny to say I say nothing at all and just move on.
Seems to work pretty well so I think I'll stick to it (only down side is that the reputation doesn't go up as fast)
