If you are retrieving the data using WCF, then you are already refreshing the data asynchronously. This renders the need to read the data in using a background worker, moot - after all, your UI will still be responsive while the data is being fetched.

|
|
|
|
You mean there is no need to use the backgroundworker?
|
|
|
|
|
Not if you are already retrieving the data asynchronously (which you are using RIA services). As a test, write a simple data method to return a single integer from the server side but give it a delay of one minute before it returns. When you call this method, your UI will still remain responsive.

Hi,
I'm trying to write a custom Treeview in WPF where child items are linked to their parents by lines.
It's hard to explain, but I'm basically trying to make a custom version of the this treeview so that our designer can customise it as required:
Is there an easy way of doing this? So far I've been hacking away at it and haven't got very far.
Thanks

The stock WPF treeview doesn't support lines. If you google WPF treeview lines, you'll get some links on how to add it... but, the examples are pretty buggy & 1/2 a$$ed, but they are a good foundation to build upon. I had to do this a while ago too. I can't share the code though because its copyrighted I did build off the sample code that I found and fixed all the bugs and fleshed out the implementation though.

I have built a silverlight web site using Expression Blend 3. The site always displays the default "B"lend icon on the IE tab [link^]. Replacing the icon file "favicon.ico" does not make any difference. Neither does adding the following code to the Head of "default.html" do anything:
<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="http://www.entribute.com/favicon.ico"></LINK>

that is normal because you use the 2008 version of Visual Studio!
and silverlight 4 it is working with the 2010 version!!!

I think you dont know that which vesion is compatible with VS 2008.

I think he does. Silverlight 4 is not compatible with VS 2008; it is only available with VS2010. If you go here[^] you can download the relevant items that you need. If you'd gone to this page first, you could have saved yourself a real head scratching.

VS2008 does not support Silverlight 4.
Install Silverlight 3 or move to VS2010.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

Sorry, Silverlight 4 and up versions will not run on VS2008.
One has to upgrade to VS2010 for it.

hello, WPF WebBrowser control - how to retrieve user selection? Thanks

I know there is no control like this for .Net 4.0 WPF (there is for Win Forms)...I'm pretty sure about that...could be wrong. Anyways, I have done some browsing here at CP and on Google and I have not found a clear-cut solution to the problem. Do I need to write one myself (preferably not) or is there an affordable TPC out there that I could use?
Thanks.

The most straightforward way is to add a reference to System.Windows.Forms and create the dialog with code:
using (FolderBrowserDialog dlg = new FolderBrowserDialog())
{
if (dlg.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK)
{
}
}
However, I wrote one myself some years ago, becouse I needed a different visual looking. It is not hard, but I recommend you to build the tree of folders on demand, I mean, build each subtree level just when the user wants to expand a tree node. Building the whole tree of folders might take too much time.

One way is, as mentioned in the first answer, to create a wrapper around the win32 class.
Another way is shown in this article[^].

Bit late but this is what you want if you are still interested

It's got all sorts in there.

Thanks but I am using Win XP not Win 7. I will still check it out though.

Hi all,
Is there any way to recognize when an object has been rendered in a viewport3d?
e.g.: Suppose you have 10 objects drawn on the X in a straight line .. 10 units or so apart
And the camera is in a position where it only can see a few of these objects.
Is there any way to detect, from code behind, which objects can be seen, and which cannot be seen?
.. what I really want is this ...
I want the (visible) objects to react when the canera comes close. (For instance show an extra descriptive text)
I have already build solutions like extra models in the 3d world carrying text but some how that does not do the job.
(not visually nor performance wise ..)
I'm looking for a solution where I can put an invisible panel (canvas?) on top of my Viewport3D.
This panel should be able to overlay the descriptive text fields on the Viewport3D.
Now the tricky part ... ofcourse the descriptive fields have to move whenever the user moves around in 3D space!!

You can try hooking the UpdateLayout event, or maybe the Loaded event. No guarantees, but that's what I would try first (unless of course, there's a JustRendered event ).

BTW, change your user ID so that it DOESN'T reflect your email address.

Change your user ID ASAP, otherwise you'll get blitzed with spam.

Hi,
Currently developed a siverlight content.
Whenever a person accesses the content, the relevant XAP file gets downloaded to the Temp Files.
Any measure to implement security, and prevent leaking of the XAP file the end user?
