It is unlikely you will get this, it is a fairly large subject to cover.
You need to set up a subscription that will process the report, the subscription can be set up to email the exported report to your gmail account.

Hello,
I would like to find a cheap (free) software package that I can use to output data from SQL Server. It does not need to be too fancy as all I am doing is connecting two tables (header and detail).
I do not do this often enough to purchase Crystal Reports.
Thanks
djj
Note I originally posted this in the Lounge as a reporting question. I guess I should have thought to put it in the DB area.

As a developer, can you not write your own?

I am not a developer! I do a little programming but am mainly a T-SQL person as a DBA.
I did think about it though

Your profile says you are.....
If your not looking for anything fancy, then sometimes rolling your own can be the best option. Sometimes giving your brain that little challenge is enought to keep you ticking over nicely.

Actually my profile says I have been programming. That technically is not a developer as they generally (I hope) know what they are doing.
The number of programs being used by people that I have developed is very small and the programs themselves are simple.
Four years ago I could have knocked something out quickly but know I need to refresh my memory on how to do it which I like to do but the boss thinks I could use my time else where.

If you've got Server SQL, why not use Reporting Services (SSRS)?

Good question. Mainly I do not know how to. I guess I can get my book out and see what I come up with.

Excel?
I use it and it is easy to manipulate.

I have a text column that is greater than 255 characters.
Excel has a problem when I try to move the info around.

Excel as a reporting tool is a dog, integrating any office product to a database/c# application is always fraught with danger.
Outputting the data to a csv file and manipulating it in excel on the other hand is reasonable.

I write XML and then use XSLT to transform the data (to HTML or CSV).

Get to know SSRS, theoretically as a DBA it does (sort of) come under database.
It's free and you can use embedded reports if your requirements are simple (if you do not need the full server capability).

Hi everyone.
First i want to ask apologize for my english but it isn't my mother language. But i try my best to explain myself. second i already post it in the .Net Framework section at Question & Answers label, but Henry Minute said to post it here because.
My Problem is:
I'm building a project using entity framework. The data base is generate by a edmx(database project). To implement business logic i use stored procedures, but i only con map the to parent entity funcions. I can't map stored procedures to an associated table.
Thanks

Hi,
the problem is not the sp. The problem is i can't map it. I only can map sp to an Entity(stored procedure mapping) that exists in the .edmx file. Ex: sp_insertClient is mapped to the addClient at mapping functions. But imagine that is another table associted with the Client table by a many-to-many association. The intermediate table beetwen them has no entity in the designer model(.edmx file). So, i can not map a sp to that intermediate table.
Best regards

send your data as an xml to the sp as
SET @Sls_Serial = SCOPE_IDINTITY();
DECLARE @insptr Int;
EXEC sp_xml_preparedocument @insptr OUTPUT, @XML;
INSERT INTO Sales_Head
SELECT
@Sls_Serial_No
FROM OPENXML(@insptr,'<element path>',1)
WITH
(<column> <type> '@<attribute name>');
EXEC sp_xml_removedocument @insptr
