Doug,
For your future reference, could you use <pre lang="vb"> your code goes here </pre> instead of <code></code>. The pre tags preserve formatting and give some syntactical colouring. As you will have seen, the code tags just give a horrible reddish colour. this hurts my eyes so much (genuinely) that I am unable to read your code, not that I could have helped anyway .

Hi,
What is the best way to store/retrieve binary data in/from SQL server DB via VB.Net.
I have inheritate an SQL server database that has stored PDF files in a table and not got a clue in how to store or retrive the binary data. I plan to write a VB.Net application to display the contents.
Any ideas?

Is it possible to make the tab (a text 'Main Report' appears in it) invisible that appears in a CrystalReportViewer just below the Toolbar? I know it shows which section of the report is opened currently but in certain scenario I need it not to be visible. Please help. Regards.

Are you referring to the group tree? If so, you can set it to not show by setting the DisplayGroupTree value to false.

Hi all, I'm going to finish the IT professional and management have to develop a final draft of the course. My project will be a program for managing a business lunch. Still have not programmed anything, just created the forms. When I change any label or whatever is the form the program does not change, crashes and it takes ages to open. If someone can explain to me why thanks.

because you did something wrong. Without any information to work on, that is as specific an answer you will get.
If there is a compile-time or run-time error, look at it; or report it here.

Not necessarily. I once wrote a VB.NET app that didn't crash, in fact I have had more C# crashes than VB ones. Although my crash/LOC ratio is better overall in C#.

I suspect that there is something wrong with your code, but without seeing some of it (or receiving a better explanation) it is impossible to guess.

Visual Designer keeps track of your actions by creating one or more (hidden) source files, probably called form1.designer.vb or something similar. You can see them with Windows Explorer; and with Visual Studio provided you make it show all files, there is an icon button for that.
When you run your app, it either works fine or throws an exception, and since you did not add any explicit code, it will not be swallowed by an empty catch block. Look at the exception, pay attention to class names, file names, and line numbers mentioned, or report it here.

Search for the main method in your project and see what form it trying to open. You may have changed the name of the form but not the reference to it in the main method.
Hope that helps

Hi,
I do not know if this is the correct place to put this question but maybe someone has come acroos this problem. So sorry in advance.
Is there a way to generate multiple files from 1 run i.e. via vb.net create a pdf file but the pdf has more than 1 page. I want to create a new file for every page e.g. Page1.PDF, Page2.PDF etc.

What do you consider a "run"? Yes, you can generate multiple documents with multiple pages from a single method. If it's lots of pages than it might take a while.
What library are you going to use to write the PDF-files?
--Crystal Reports of course, that's what the question was about, and that also explains why you're worrying about the limits
This[^] thread seems to suggest that CR only generates a single PDF from a single report. You could try that in a loop, but that might become a bit slow.
A colleague suggested that it might be handier to generate a large report and to split that into multiple PDF's. There's a number of tools that could help there, like this[^] one.

Hmm ... Interesting problem.
How about using the ReportDocument.PrintToPrinter option where you could pass the starting and ending page number ?
If you need to create PDFs, you could find one of those PDF print drivers and install it on your computer and print to that print driver.
I've used http://www.pdf995.com/[^] in the past and it enables any program to generate PDFs.
My 2 cents.

I am relatively new to .net development and am inquiring on suggestions on what windows control(s) I would use to write a timecard application I am working on. Specifically, I would like to give the users the ability to enter a days time or modify any existing time entry they created. I am sure I could create fields for each time entry (i.e. date, hours, description) but this seems like it would have huge limitations as I don't know if the user needs to add 5 entries for the day or 10+ entries and each field would need data validation. Another option would be to add one line of fields and populate a listview as the time entry is added. A third option might be to use a datagrid? If any one would be willing to share any ideas, it would greatly be appreciated.
I do apologize if this post is added to the wrong forum so if anyone thinks I should move to a different forum, please let me know which forum would be more appropriate.
Or if anyone knows of a better control via asp or wpf, please let me know.
Thank you for your time,
Chad
