While it might be unfortunate to those who choose to reply, it's the best ever way to get rid of trolls. Have a 5 and my support for it as well!

I suggest a test: gin up a new CodeProject id and post about how global warming is linked to Judaism.

But I love to engage Dave in conversation, abusing him is also one of my highlights.
Seriously though, a very good suggestion which I beleive will work. I also don't think the person you are talking about is a die-hard Troll as such, maybe just a bit young, and I think this suggestion will help him back into the community and maybe, over time, become a valued member.

Nish, a good idea, and I say that as one how sometimes cannot help but reply to said Trolls.
Get's my 5 for your proposal.

Why do we have to have the Lounge spoiled by childish bantering between 054m4 and DD? 054m4 is clearly a muck alias for some other member, so isn't it possible to use the log files and identify his correct identity and do something about it?

And what exactly would you do about it?
His account(s) get deleted and then he just creates a new one under another name, at least now we know it's him and can just ignore him.
I admit it is annoying but if everyone would just ignore his posts and use the 'vote to remove message' button without replying it wouldn't be that bad.
So all we need to do know is convince DD to quit responding to him.

First of all: Aren't you curious as to who behaves so childlishly?
Second of all: Exposing his true identity could perhaps be a help. It's a bugger if you can't post stuff under your own name either if people know what you post using your alias...

No not really since I ignore all his posts I don't really care one way or the other.

I beg to differ. Banning the actual IP address is a start.

Blocking IP addresses doesn't help. Life would be easier if it did.
Ignoring does, as does voting to remove their messages.

I think it's proved over and over again that that doesn't help squat...

Bending your knees. That helps squat.

Sure. It may also bring you down to the level of the trolls. Squat isn't the answer to everything.

What about more than 1 member using the same IP (corporate IP), you would be banning them all.
What about dynamic IP's? He can just get a new IP and continue.
What if you ban his IP, he gets a new one and somebody else get's his banned IP (I know I know chances of that happening are very small but still)
Banning IP's has been discussed here over and over again and the outcome is always the same, it doesn't help.

So my I idea to ban the IP was bad...you win some, you lose some.

yep. vote for removal, otherwise ignore, do not reply, do not start a thread about the subject, don't even participate in one, and don't use the T word.

Yes it is, they can look at the actual IP address and all member aliases associated with this IP address. IMHO - banning the IP address would "help" solve the problem and would be a start in the right direction.

I agree to an extent, but I still believe that exposing his true identity would put a serious damper on his future activities...

What if our little friend only has one identity? What would you expose?
POH makes a very, very good point in ignoring this type of behavior. Exposing this person only adds fuel to the fire. Ban the IP and move on with our lives.
