I recently noticed that my friend's mother, who gets email newsletters from her church group, would open these newsletters in her browser, which allowed her to zoom the text size (since her vision is not too good). She could do this because at the very top of the newsletter, there would be a small message "Trouble viewing? Read this issue at somesite.com.", which was a clickable link, that took her directly to the newsletter web page.
This seems to me like an excellent feature to add to all the CodeProject newsletters.

It's already there. There's a "View Online" link at the top of the newsletter.

It is!
Didn't see it before. Hmmmm. Where's that zoom button?

Can't you do this with your email-client? Just press the Ctrl-key and turn the mousewheel.

There is currently a "Javascript" forum. I believe it should be written as "JavaScript" (see here).

I followed the link you posted out of my usual curiosity and it confirmed my intuition that Javascript is indeed the correct labeling of said forum.
Why on god's earth would you want to use a trademarked term?
Feel free to elaborate on this!

You mean like "Visual C#" or "The Code Project"? Just because something is trademarked does not mean you cannot reference it by its name. Just means you can't use that name for your own purpose (e.g., you can't create a commercial programming language that you call "JavaScript").
|
|

No I meant what I said. Javascript is perfectly Ok so there is no need to use the trademarked "JavaScript" term nor any reason to do so.
Cheers!

Because "JavaScript" is the correct form. Using "Javascript" instead is like using "WpF" instead of "WPF".

Hello, I got the message under my article, that it is not possible to download the attached example.
I have tried it in myself, and the download really did not work. Instead of the 'Save Dialog Box', I got the "empty" page.
e.g.: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/Blogs/185318/EncryptedCommunicationWP7.zip[^]
I have checked also my other articles and I got the same problem. I also tried articles of other authors - same problem.
It seems the download stopped to work for 'Technical Blog Articles'. When I tried some 'Code Project Article', the download worked.
Please, could someone checked this issue?

Really sorry about this.
Working on fixing it now
Should be good now.

I have BizTalk and Phone in my selected topics to filter out of the weekly newsletter, but those articles still appear. Am I misinterpreting how to use the filters? C# is on my Include list. Is that why an article with both C# and BizTalk keywords gets included? I would surely want the Exclude list to override the Include one.

Great feature, but you should not count same people downloading same file multiple times as separate downloads. Currently - it registers multiple downloads of the same file by the same person as separate downloads.

there's really nothing they can do about that unless they keep track of the date/time the file was downloaded by that person, and then checlked to see if the downloadable file was newer. It would be a moderately-sized logistical nightmare. Beyond that, they'll probably do a recount and catch up all of the older downloads as well. How would you back-track it then?

I do not know what info they keep. But from my viewpoint - all they need to do is to maintain a list of users downloading a software for each article. If a user downloads for the same article again, the author should not be getting points for it.

Why? Really, who cares other than the author?

people should be prevented from increasing their score indefinitely. yes, even authors

Why? If an author significantly enhances a piece of code which the user redownloads, why should they not get rewarded? You're onto a loser here; opinion is definitely against you.

I think you misunderstand, currently simply by re-downloading the same file, the author can increase his score.
Nick Polyak

I don't think the author gets any points if he downloads it. Plus, there are daily caps on points, so he or she would have to be really dedicated to the cause. Finally, points don't actually get you anything so what harm does it do?
|
|
|
|
|
I downloaded it twice - I got 10 points. I do not want to test the daily limit, because I do not think it would be fair.
