I would think SQL Server Reporting Services SSRS is the most widely used.
Crystal Reports is a dog, it is one of the worst supported, garbage products I have ever had the misfortune to have been very knowledgeable about.
There are however many other reporting options that I have no experience in.

There are lots of reporting tools availabe for .net. Normally Crystal Report is the Most popular. Though Lots of developer used HTML reporting because of its easy to implement in websites. And every host support that. But Lots of host not support Crystal Report.

despite others, I also recommend RDLC of Microsoft.

Although Crystal report is the most popular reporting technology, I will recommend SSRS. SSRS offers much better flexibility, controls over the report.

I have to create a SSIS package which will take data from a large xml file(~10GB), and import it into sql server 2005 database. Can anyone tell me the steps which i have to follow to do this? I also have to do XSD validation and maitain Transaction.

well you could better use BCP command for large files to import into a database.
See here for more details
In Word you can only store 2 bytes. That is why I use Writer.

Hi all,
I have a MS-Access database.
Whenever I open the database its modified date and time will be changed.
I want whenever a change in the database ( by modifying records or tables )
then only the DB date and time should be changed.
How to control by not modifying date and time, when only database is opened or accessed?
How to do this?

I can't understand enough your question, can you explain more technically?

Yaah,
Whenever we just open and close the database. The date and time of the database will be modified.
I don't want this. ( date and time modification ).
If I have changed the database
ex: By adding new records or tables, or deleting records or tables
then only the database modified date and time should be changed.
how to do this?

You are not going to be able to manage the modified time of a file (your DB) from within the file, it will be in use by another process.
If you need to track the changes made WITHIN the database then you are going to have to build the logging infrastructure to manage that and it will not be via the modified date of the database file.

You could possibly get and store the date before opening the file and restore it after closing.
But I doubt it's worth the trouble.

I have a large xml file and I want to importing data from it to my database using LINQ.
- My database has many type of data and my xml file has null value.
- xml file has multi table.
In T-SQL, I used Dataset.Readxml and using SqlBulkCopy to insert dataset into SQL. My problem is xml file has null value.
I want to use LINQ to write it. What should I do? Please help me.

xml doesn't have 'null', so exactly what do you mean?
I suspect you mean that you have an element with no value or perhaps 'nil'?
If so there are two possibilities.
1. The corresponding database column allows nulls.
2. The corresponding database column does not allow nulls - thus you MUST provide a value. You would do that while processing the file. No one can tell you what a valid value for that is since it depends on business rules.

Yes, I mean I have an element with no value or perhap null.
I want to use LINQ.I have a column date type of data is datetime. And in my xml file, date has no data. I wrote a store procedure use openxml. When I execute it, it return 01/01/1900. I want it return null.

|

So just add something to the end of the stored proc to update the invalid value to null.

Hello,
Can any one tell me common function for SQL server and Oracle for getting month from the given date.
For Example,
In SQL Server
--> CAST(DATEPART(Month , Booking.BookingDtTime) AS VARCHAR(20)) AS Month_Value
In Oracle
--> TO_CHAR(Booking.BookingDtTime, 'Month') AS Month_Value
I want a common function for the same which works both in SQL Server as well Oracle.
Thanks..

Good luck with that. They are different databases using different sql dialects (TSQL and PLSQL) what makes you thinks there is or should be a common function in each dialect. You are going to have to code around the differences and detect the type of database you are working against.
[edit]
One way would be to code your own function in each database and use the same name. Functions are on a roll this morning.

You will encounter many more differences between SQL Server's SQL and Oracle's SQL. When I made our application work with both of them, I created a framework for that. The "S" in SQL stands for "structured", not for "standard"!

There's ANSI-92 SQL, and Sql Server supports that. Doesn't Oracle have something similar?
