I've never seen a decent browser then.
All the ones I use (FF4, OP11, CR13, Netscape, Safari,...) refuse to bring the signature/preview/options stuff higher up than the bottom of the smileys pane, so there is not much sense in reducing the edit box height (unless it had been expanded before).

So does the grip at the bottom of the text area not allow you to expand/shrink the text area?
Ravi's clarification on wanting the signature area to move up to fill the space has clarified the issue for me. That grip was meant to allow people to expand the area and it was not envisaged that shrinking it would be a common use case. I now know better, and hope that this clarifies the facts for you.

Fixed the positioning of the smilies bar so that the preview now slides up, and also added a confirmation dialog on "Cancel". Available next release.

I was writing a reply to an existing post and hit Cancel (an unconcious reponse to click the now non-existent Preview button) and lost my nicely formatted, informative and helpful reply. A confirmation prompt would have come in handy.
Thanks,

If you hit the "forward" button, you'll see the draft you typed intact.

I think Ravi's in the right here. I should have added a confirmation dialog.

Halfway there. I've given 'em each a tap on the head, and they all have 2 or 3 reports.

The solution to the question appears vertical after I submit a solution to it? Is it only happening to me I dont know but after refreshing the page it goes back to normal. I am using Firefox 5.0.

I can't be bothered looking, but this was reported here a few days ago. Several of us have experienced it, but as you discovered, a refresh fixes it.

Hey Peter,
Yes you are right. It is already been reported but seems like no action was taken

Same error. Unfortunately I simply haven't had a chance to fix it. My apologies.

I've updated the CSS to fix this issue so a Ctrl+F5 will fix it for you. Once I do a full release the file's version number will be updated and a Ctrl+F5 won't be needed (hopefully tomorrow)

I noticed in the search results it still shows the 1st line of the message in the search result for messages that have been automatically removed.
Should these not be excluded from the results set?
e.g. the spammer mentioned in the post below is pushing a site which i shall not mention, but if you put that site in the search and search messages, they still show up despite being automatically removed, and the content of the message is visible in the results, but click on the result and it shows the message automatically removed.
I rambled a bit there, but i'm sure you get my drift

I'm mentioning the below one
Message Automatically Removed
In our forums, sometimes we are seeing these kind of threads mostly Spams(rarely incomplete questions), It will be better hide those kind of messages(Instead of showing) if there are no replies.
Example Messages found in 1st page of below forums(You can find more on previous pages)
Message Automatically Removed[^] - .NET Framework forum
Message Automatically Removed[^] - ASP.NET forum
Message Automatically Removed[^] - JavaScript forum
Another one
Please remove these messages[^] by yesterday spammer[^], it's really annoying to see those messages everywhere.

I'll add this to the TODO, but surprisingly this isn't straight forward.
To do this you need to know whether a message has children and that can be done in three ways: we calculate on the fly, or we join with a table that has the number of messages in each thread, or we store the number of children in the row for each message itself (a denormalised value). The first method is slowest, the last method the fastest, the middle method is the neatest (to me), but still too slow.
A further issue is that we'd probably need to add this new denormalised column to the main index, and would also need to update this denormalised column each time a message is added/deleted. This slows down message posting.
None of this is a huge issue, and the extra load is a small, most likely unnoticeable incremental slowdown, but with a system as finely tuned as the forums I'll need to set aside a good solid chunk of time to test and experiment.
