Hi there,
A Mobile application is an application that runs on a mobile device such cellphone, iPad ...
There are many utility fields such as geolocalization : locating restaurant, shopping spaces around you ...
Mobile development depends on the device in which you application will run and the operating system it is using ... so tutorials should be associated to Mobile operating system (android, iOS, window mobile ...).
you should first of all choose a mobile operating system then try to google some tutorials on it ...
Regards.

Before starting a project we need to determine feasibility.... We currently do this in a Windows app using OLE but would like to redesign and port it to Android. This is a major requirement so we are hoping this isn’t a non starter for Android. There will be multiple bitmaps inserted along with text to create custom documents. The bitmaps are pixel graphics that add meaning to the document. There seems to be only a few questions similar to this on other forums with no definitive answer, although it seems one company may be working on a yet unfinished RichTextBox like control for Android. - Thanks

Have a look at setBackgroundResource(int) . You need a drawable resource - your image - and the control renders it as the background.

Thanks for the reply. I did read about that, but there may be some problems. First there will be many of these graphics in the text not just one and they need to be moveable and resizeable. I don't think setting a background image will do it. Currently, in a Windows app, we get this behavior by inserting the bitmaps as OLE objects in a RichText Control. Android doesn't appear to support this, at least not natively. Thanks

I'm thinking that using MonoDroid to develop may be a possible solution. Has anybody worked with this using C#/.NET in Visual Studio? If it supports using RichTextBox then the problem could be solved. It's another tool to have to buy but may be worth it.

When you receive a text from a person that is not in your contact list, it simply shows up as their phone number. How can I quickly save that number (and edit it) in my contact list? Right now I'm writing that number down, and than creating the contact manually.

Click on the number - this brings you to a screen that says Unknown Contact. At the bottom of that screen, you'll see the save icon, click that and choose new contact (or select one from the list of contacts). From there on in, you should be able to figure it out.

That worked. Thanks.

Hi,
u should check out the Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Status-Namespace. The SystemStatus-Class provides several fields which could be useful to getting the cradled-state and network-status.

I've posted this elsewhere but a lack of response made me try again in this mobile forum. Or maybe there is no best answer and I should just throw a dart and jump in....
I’ve been an application developer for 25+ years starting with C, then C++/MFC, then C#/.net . Developing mainly DOS and now Windows based desktop applications, having never done any web or mobile/tablet development. I now find myself in a position needing to fast track my learning on this topic, and know little to nothing about it, as I’ve had my head buried in desktop development for way too long. With Windows 8 on the horizon I'm more than confused as to where to concentrate my limited resources of time and $$.
I know there is quite a bit of information about touch pad/tablet app development on CodeProject but where to begin, and finding the best sources can take some time. It also seems that people are very passionate about their pet systems. Asking which is the best system seems akin to discussing politics and religion. I'm doing this in my spare time, nights and weekends, so I've got none to waste...
I have an older C++/MFC app that I’ve been getting significant requests, from customers, to convert/re-write to run on IPad, Android, etc. and I’m now starting to research how best to proceed.
My question, besides where to start is what to use/how to design, to get the most bang for the buck in time as well as money, and make porting as easy as possible to multiple devices. Maybe I’m naive to say this but, I don’t see my project as a smart phone app but IPad, Android, Win 7 tablets and certainly Windows 8 will be targets. Can anyone give me any advice as to where to start, advice on classroom or online training, etc.
Thanks and Much appreciated,
Steve

Android Developers The dev guide there is a good starting point. Android is Java so learning curve shouldn't be to steep with C# background.
iOS Dev Center The learning curve here is steeper. A book called "Programming in Objective-C" isn't a bad place to get started.
Your going to want at a few devices to test with, not cheap with limited resources. Get yourself a android phone and start there. I've found sales on android far exceed iPhone/iPad sales.
Either you will have a lot of customers or customers who are prepared to pay good money. Most phone users think $10 is expensive.

Thanks, I will look at these suggestions. I think I just need to dive in and get started on something before Windows 8 comes out and possibly reshuffles the deck. I think with my cellular plan I can replace my blackberry with an android phone without too much added cost, maybe just renewing my contract. Learning something new will make it interesting, I've been writing desktop apps way too long.
Not wanting to shell out the extra $$ to buy a Mac, I may start experimenting with Android and Win 7. All I need for Win 7 is to buy a touch screen enabled monitor and download the SDK. 10$ too expensive for a phone app?? That's quite a difference in perspective. If we sold a desktop app for $10, not many would buy it becuase "How good can it be for only $10". There's that whole price threshold thing (<: Thanks again.

Hey Guys, as the title says im new to this game. my company have developed/in the stage of developing a windows 7 phone app whereby its a quote and buy system for insurance. so far we have the basics down and the emulateor seems to be coping ok..im just abit stumped on how or what i need to do to get our database linked up.. i have a reference button whereby if a customer has a ref' code they enter it hit go and it will bring up their quote that they have had previously. the main is written in xaml in visual studio, and have been using 'blend' for the design aspect. we have scripts in php for getting/receiving quotes but im unaware on how to implement the two or where to insert the link/script to draw the info from our database.. if this hasnt made any sense then please say, as i feel myself waffle-ing. thanks for your time and help!

A non dev friend has a Samsung WP7 device with no LED for notifications. He has asked me if it's possible to write an app similar to NoLED for Android[^].
I'm not asking for any code - I look forward to writing it myself, just want to know if this is even possible from anybody experienced with Windows Phone 7 development.
