How can I enforce a margin to a web document, I am using CSS for formating documents (I only use XML with a CMS that generates HTML, because I use both Windows and Linux  :P). I have tried left-margin ... and it hasn't worked. My teacher is strick about margins. Also how can I prevent a header from being placed on the first page?

Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but...
Is there any way to control the WSDL produced in a VS.NET C# Web Services Project? I'm guessing it might be something involving attributes.
Basically, I'm using SOAP to return subsets of a database, and I think DataSet et. al. may be a little to heavy-weight for what I need. An example of what I want is a SOAP function GetAuthorInfo( UINT id ) that returns an author's details as XML, conforming to a predefined Schema. I'd like to be able to specify this Schema in my WSDL file.
I'm new to the whole SOAP/XML/Web Service thing, so I'm not sure if this is a really naive way to implemnt this kind of functionality, so any comments and suggestions are most welcome.

i'd like to use a file input field where the user can select a
file. if the filename is entered manually or by browsing i
can access the filename by the value property. but i also
like to set the value to different default values by
clicking on different buttons. but setting the value with
File1.value = "TEST"; during runtime does not work. the
field stays empty.

The MSDN docs state that the file *path* is only available (i.e., can't set but can get) to machines in the Local Machine zone, but only the file *name* is available to machines outside said zone.
This is for security reasons. Computers on the Internet (besides your own) shouldn't be able to know anything about your system other than what you tell them. Knowing your file paths is information no one else really needs to know. Also, imagine what would happen if a web site could *set* the "value" attribute: all I'd have to do is set "style='display:none;'" on the input box and I could upload any of *your* files I wanted to without you knowing, like your personal or machine registry hives or other files for which I know the common paths.

I have an inline frame on my webpage of which the contents and height change according to different buttons the user might push. The problem is that I that when I use the following code:

the web page loads but keeps loading 10 times a second and my computer keeps clicking and clicking as if I was repeatedly clicking on a link. The function ChangeChild is as such:

Changing the .src attribute value of any html tag produces additional loads, hence what you see.
What you want to do is unclear, but from what I see I suggest to avoid to call "child" the iframe tag itself.
In addition, changing the .height attribute dynamically can produce blinking and other unwanted scrolling effects. That's always best to let the browser decide itself the height of an html container.

Well, I guess I should have explained what I wanted to do in the first place. I have an inline frame which is supposed to change every time I push buttons on top of the page, simulating a tab control. Now the height of the frame I want it to change to accomodate the content of the different pages that load so the vertical scroll bar doesn't appear. It is no problem since I use onclick = "ChangeChild()"...but if the user reloads the page (from explorer with the refresh button) then the inline frame takes the value that was first given to it when the home page was loaded and the vertical scroll bar appears. I hope I haven't confused you. Do you have any suggestions for me/strategy to avoid this?

Yes, isn't that what the Refresh button is for ?
A possible way to change the support of Refresh is to not provide a .src value at all.

Hi norm,
The asp page having the mailobject covers only 50% of the mail sending problem. The other 50% consitutes how the webserver (IIS) deals with the mail request that is being submitted.
(*)Make sure you have the SMTP Server Configured Properly. You need to have proper DNS settings if you want your IIS SMTP (Microsoft SMTP Service) itself to deliver mails to the hosts. Or you can configure the SmartHost to which your Microsoft SMTP Service will handover mails and take rest.
If you do have SMTP configuration in your IIS, it might have not been installed while installing the same. Are you using Windows 2000/XP. In that case, you would find SMTP in Windows Components (Internet Information Services Setup).
If you want a FREE SMTP Server itself, try http://www.jana-server.com/, which comes for free. But then, you can not use CDONTS, since I am afraid, we might not be able to configure CDONTS to use a specific mail server. Is'nt it? You then need to use a third party mailing component like Persits ASP Email, available for free from http://www.persits.com/

i have already installed persist ASP Email, but i'm not sure if I configured the SMTP host wrongly or if it's problem with SMTP.
anyway, the site will be hosted on a Windows 2000 Adv Server box. We've confirmed that SMTP is installed by:
(a) wwwroot directory contains "mailroot" folder and all the usual sub-folders.
(b) MMC (management console)>Applications and Services>Services> SMTP is there! It's sitting right there in front of our eyes. BUT default SMTP is NOT there when you expand IIS's node.
(c) We put in the Windows 2000 Adv Server installation disc, and selected the option to install components. The installer detected that SMTP is already installed.
So, I just cant figure out why I cant find SMTP under IIS node in MMC. And if I cant do that, I can try to configure it for CDONTS. Headache - although we plan to have some company to host the site for us, this slows us down at this stage when we need to test our code.

I use asp mail to send mails from the site. It works fine for all time, till I used it in some other place. It works fine whenI used for sending the feedback etc.
I tried the same to implement for the friend referal etc. I tried to make the interface different and combine as general function later.
So I copy & paste the codes. Now, it doesnt work for the new mail sending. The mail sending works fine only for my domain's mail ID, like name1@mydomain.com, name2@mydomain2.com. It fails when I give any mail id as name@hotmail.com etc. It doesnt print any error message at the "mailobject.Response".
I even tried to run the page individually by hardcoding the mail address, but it doesnt work!!
Whats the problem??

NO my friend.
If you can see my FIRST message of this thread, you can see that my code is working fine with ASPMail. And I was trying to do the same at different interface, and it fails to send the mail. Thats the code I posted.
Finally I changed my code as a generic one by directing to the already 'working' mail part. But still, I have no idea of why and how the code wasnt working there.
