Yes, OP confessed he only has a need for about 5 clients. Carving stone tablets and shipping them via carrier pigeon would work at that scale.

Cool. Yes, that is what I've seen on google as well. Something in the 3k to 5k range.

If you want something that'll do 10k+ clients bi-directional though, as far as I know, only TCP/IP w/ IOCP can handle that.
