I'm not doubting, but I do want to check it wasn't an accidental slip of the cursor.
The steps you took were:
1. You were viewing From one to another number system[^]
2. you posted a comment
3. You ended up on the edit page
Is that right?
I just repeated those steps and it was fine my end.

Pretty much as I recall (it was hours ago, and I've slept since then).
It's never happened before, so I didn't make notes of the exact steps I took to get there.
Now when I follow the link, I get a "You have a new working version. Would you like to view or edit this new version?" which I've not seen before either.
If it happens again, I'll try to make better notes - perhaps put it down as a one-off "soft error" for the moment?

... paste into Q&A without all my HTML control characters being turned into their non-control equivalents? There used to be a selector under the Q&A solution box that allowed "Ignore HTML when pasting" (or something similar); that has now disappeared so when I paste some HTML formatted text it gets destroyed as the paster turns it into XML.
May we have it back please?

When you paste, a dialog bpx should pop up to the right of the edit box giving you live options. If that's not appearing, please let me know which browser you're using.
Under your settings / Forums you'll see the spot you select your default paste options.

Using Chrome 18.0.1025.142 (latest version).
If I pasted a link to a website it formatted correctly and highlighted the text portion so I could add my own text, as has been the case for a long time.
If I pasted the following:
<blockquote class="FQ"><div class="FQA">somebody wrote:</div>some text</blockquote>
I got
<pre lang="xml"><blockquote class="FQ"><div class="FQA">Falconapollo wrote:</div>support </blockquote>
but no popup appeared, so I needed to modify it manually to remove the "xml" wrapper.
In My Settings the default paste option was "Paste Text only"; changed to "Use the best guess", and it now seems to work better, although still no popup box. I will experiment with the other settings to get what I want; unless you have a suggestion as to the optimum choice.

I'm on the same version of chrome and pasted the same text. The popup showed.
Dang it.
Do you have any add-ins installed? Ad blockers? Site messer-upper-ers?

Nothing that I am aware of, and Chrome says that I don't have any extensions. I have tried other settings in my profile and it now pastes "as is" without any changes or pop-up. Although, when I try to save my new settings it shows:

For 1 day a year (you pick the day), you should try a few beta features, just to see how the community reacts.
For one, I'd like to see blinking text for important items, like the link to the Lounge.
Also, you could mark the most popular posts with a moving border (aka, marching ants) to make them more apparent.
Additionally, it would be a boon to be notified of reputation events with a scrolling browser status bar.
Finally, the scrolling technique should also be used to scroll the page title... with tabs being so small, I can almost never see the full title without mousing over it.
I hope you will make these a priority; I feel these improvements are much more important than anything else you might curently have on your plate.

An while we're at it, the font should be changed to something a little more whimsical, just to show what a bunch of wags we are.

I just tried to log in using IE9 under "Dij The Cat" in order to check the "Remember Me" check box was still there.
The password I had on file didn't work, so I clicked on "Lost password".
Entered the email, and the user name, and you happily sent an email with a new password.
I copied and pasted this into the log in name and password, and got:
Unable to logon: Information for 'Dij@S***********s.com' not found (make sure you enter your email address, not your username) Which is the email you sent the new password to...

Since yesterday's update all emails from CP have switched to HTML, despite my having it set to Text in My Settings.
I have tried re-setting it but to no avail.
It really doesn't make much difference, it's just that I prefer my computers to do as I tell them.
If the option is no longer available, perhaps the option might be removed from the Settings page.

Didn't get a Newsletter so far today, so can't say on that one but replies and comments yes.
Except for this one from you! You did that deliberately, didn't you? Just because I'm old and easily confused. Yours was Text.
