So ashamed to take the money that I'm obliged to develop project and articles on codeproject for free to restablish my karma !

It reminds me of the closing scene from gangs of new york.. where after this epic struggle it shows the gravestones against the evolving city, and as a hundred years elapse in seconds, the markers crumble, and then are gone.. In 5 years, many of the machines I programmed will be replaced. In ten years, most of my current knowledge will be obsolete. In twenty years, nothing that I have made will be relevant at all.. Maybe I should have built houses..

We did a different show every night. We'd open a show, and then two weeks later we'd open the next show. And two weeks later we'd open the third show until we had all eight running. And it was just one of the richest experiences I'd ever had in my theatrical life.
Warm Regards.

Proud is the wrong word, I didn't do anything to have a certain vocation, and I can only be proud of something I accomplished by myself. But I'm happy about it, and I can stand for it. I like my job, I like what I do and I don't have any qualms - but I there are things I would not program.

Adore exploring customer requirements, designing the architecture, coding the software, and testing what I've developed.
Absolutely love it.
On the other side of the coin I completely hate the job I'm in; which takes the order of above and jumbles it around.

Does the word "Business Requirement" means anything to you? It means, the software developers and IT department are generally considered the ARMPIT of the firm (the punching bag) that developers get told exactly what to do and what not to do. (Especially those top earners who work in banks you should understand what I mean)
Pride? Kidding
[well, but if you work in software house, or you own the business yourself, that's another matter. Suckingbird for instance, he's the all powerfull King - when you're in retail as supposed to enterprise you don't need bend over for food/payraises]

IT is the department that saves everyone else money. If they don't worship that concept you just need to educate them. Don't tolerate being treated like crap - you aren't.

I absolutely love writing code and building solid, long-lived libraries and apps. There is nothing else in life I'd rather do but develop software.

I'd rather be with a beautiful woman in a stable, loving relationship. Developing software isn't that great in comparison.

It gets boring real quick if that is the sum total of your life!
Don't be bloody silly you need to earn a living, so do you take pride in what you do for that part of your existence!
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity

I do, and I do. However, Ravi said, "There is nothing else in life I'd rather do but develop software." and that is what I was responding to. I enjoy writing code, and I am happy to make my living writing code, but I can think of lots of things I'd rather do.

Assuming you care to care what I think (a leap of faith, indeed!), look at my "bio" (second paragraph) for a true expression of pride.

I have a job where I pretty much get to set my own pace and work on stuff that I enjoy. Stuff l ike programming and designing hardware, for me it’s like playing.
The added bonus is that my company allows me 20% of my time to develop personal projects (Projects that benefit the company course...)
It’s not always fun and games, but that’s just a pat of life.
I am very fortunate, and I am proud to say I like my job and many others think so as well.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

There is an idiom that "Pride goes before a fall", or something like that. I'm not sure I can say I am proud or not proud to be a programming-writer. I am proud of most of my work, does that count?

Now that I'm a programmer and manager, I create things that are useful, and I can make sure others (the people who report to me) are treated with the respect, understanding and appreciation that they deserve. All in all, life is good and I'm proud of who I am and what I do.
