In my VC++ MDI application ,The ini(configuration file) file that i'm maintaining is very huge. When i try to extract strings from it using GetPrivateProfileString function,The function is unable to retrieve the values stored after certain part of the file.I'm facing this problem only in Windows 98 and there is no problem in Windows 2000.Any suggestions

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. If i open the ini file as a flat file ,read each line and store it into CMapStringToString object, does MFC puts any restriction on the size of this map(in memory size or number of strings it can hold)

Nope. Practically, there is no restriction other than your physical memory.

p.s. Theoretically you have a 4 GB limit as GetCount returns a 32 bit number

Hello,
How can I guarantee that msdev.exe is in my system path? I tried using
"set path=%path%;C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual
Studio\Common\MSDev98\Bin;" in the autoexec.bat file but I get the
"Too many parameters" error (because of the spaces, I guess).
How can I set the path? Who can I ask (If you don't know)?
Thank You.
BTW, I'm using Windows 98 SE.

But what did I do?

Try putting VCVARS32.BAT at the end of your autoexec.bat
VCVARS32.BAT is found under the "Microsoft Visual Studio\VC98\Bin" directory.

Hello Jignesh
Sorry for being so ignorant
but I didn't quite understand what you meant by: "Try putting VCVARS32.BAT at the end of your autoexec.bat". Should I just add the string "VCVARS32.BAT" at the end of the autoexec.bat file?
Thanks for your quick response.
Alon.

But what did I do?

add C:\....\vcvars32.bat as your last line.
Don't forget the call keyword before a batch file, or else the new batch file never returns to the caller.
call C:\msdev\vc98\bin\vcvars32.bat

Finally -------
set PATH=%path%;"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\MSDev98\Bin" at the end of the autoexec.bat did the job.
Thanks for your help ,

I am tring to figure out a way to remove the every property through VC6.0 or 7.0 I already now how to remove groups and users but the everyone group is not a normal group. I am assuming That I will have to remove the ACE for the ACL please help.

Why are you trying to do this? And by the way this is not possible at all.
This is how the usermgmt of NT was designed. If You create an user he must recieve
some initial rights. So everyone was introduced.
|
|
|

All I want to do is to write a script that will modify they rights of the everyone group. Which you can do on any object by going to it's security page. all I am tyying to do is automate this process which I know is possible because when edit an objects security page all you are doing is executing a series of API functions and any API function is accessible from C++ I know I cannot delete the everyone group but I also know I can assign rights to the everyone group and this is what I want to do please help

Hiya I am looking to see if I have SourceSafe 6.0 ( that ships with .net - Enterprise developer - which is what I have ) installed...
Does anyone know where abouts it is in the MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO.NET directory.
Also where can I get info on using it.
Thanks,
grahamoj.

SourceSafe 6.0 was only marginally updated for .NET. As a result, it installs in
\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio (no .NET) by default.
Software Zen: delete this;

I have an MFC dialog app that has a Webbrowser object in it. I put a bitmap as a background to that application and now whenever something covers my dialog app, the webbrowser control doesn't get redrawn. How can I fix this problem? This is probably an easy question for many of you to solve, but embarrassingly it has left me scratching my head for the last half-hour.
Your help in answering my question will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
