You could add a check to exclude people who've been members here for say 3+ years and haven't really shown signs of being spammers.

We still get spam from old accounts. Not often, true, but it happens.

Well, then couldn't you just add more checks? Member for 2 years. Posted 3 articles that are rated 3.5 or higher. Rep score is 10,000 or more. Surely, you can identify people who have very very little chance of spamming here.

Yes, we can, but then what about all the other false positives on new accounts? Just because someone doesn't have as much rep or time on the site as you doesn't mean having their account nuked is any less frustrating. We have to be fair.

I agree. If I signed up to a new website and posted a comment, and then receievd an email saying I was banned for spamming, I'd certainly be pissed off.
So, I guess there is no clean way of doing this.

We're going to write a script first thing tomorrow to undo these reports and restore the points.

My original password wouldn't let me in, so I had to use the new temp password to login. Probably by design, but just FYI.

Nope. It's a 1st party anti-Nish filter.

Hey Chris, what's with the instant downvotes again?

It needs fixing!

This is getting very annoying, and I may stop visiting the site if it doesn't stop soon! Although, I should be mad at the spam filter service, they seem to think anything with a link is spam. GRRRRRRRRR!

Yes, it seems the whole service is written in 1 single line of code which is an if-check to see if a post contains a link.
My main account is now totally locked out. I can't log in either. I've emailed Chris and Sean but it's posisble they won't see this until Monday.

It's been turned off.
An update reinstated the filter so I've nuked the spam system at the source.
My apologies.

Could you put the original poster name and at its side the name of the last CPian which has updated the question? this could help to easily identify those trolls who repost the same question with different titles...

Good idea - there is enough room on the summary page to put the two ID's one above the other.

Well, yes, the data is modified, but would the time really help with that?

Perhaps I meant time since post rather than date and time - I'm just so used to timestamping my data that calling it that becomes a habit!
Just added it in because the existing data is the time since modification which is only relevant when it's the original poster that modified it - if I change it, then that doesn't add anything in the way of info.
