Too many instructions on a single line.
Dim ControlToSet As Button = DirectCast(..
Dim TheColor As Color = Color.FromArgb(Cint(Val(..
That way you can put a breakpoint on an instruction and see what is happening. Further, I'd recommend using the Color.FromName[^] method.

You cannot understand it in "brief". Start here[^] if you don't know where to begin. The library would be a good place to visit too.

Dears,
i have implemented a custom tool that generates a new class inherited from component class. i want to force the DesignerSerializer to run after the custom tool finish to add new properties to initialize component function.
something like this
Class DerivedComponenet
inherits BaseComponent
....
sub InitializeComponent()
end sub
....
end Class
<designerserializer(gettype(customserializer),gettype(codedomserializer)> _
class BaseComponent
inehrits Componenet
<localizable()> _
public property DynamicProp1 ()
...
end prop
<localizable()> _
public property DynamicProp2()
...
end property
the classes DerivedComponent and baseComponent are generated by custom tool, and DynamicProp1 and DynamicProp2 generated by custom tool too based on criteria
when i set properties of DerivedComponent for dynamicProp1, the serializer writes it on the initializeComponent, which is fine, but if the custom tool runs again and according to the generation criterias, it decided to remove these properites and create another, then the initialize component is not updated by removing DynamicProp1 and DynamicProp2 and add let say DynamicProp3 and DynamicProp4.
the desinger does not update the file until i change anything in the DerivedComponent designer, then it serialize and regenerate the code again.
what i want is to force the designer to be regenerated again after the custom tool finished
Any Idea... and thanks

People using a tool will not always look inside that tool to analyze it. Please don't repost the same question, and try this forum[^].

You're not making a ground breaking discovery here. That little fact has already been documented, here[^].

how to create database with sql connection in vb.net
|
|
|
|
|
To which TYPE of database? Oracle, Sql Server, TimesTen?
See the Howto[^] in the documentation. You could generalize it like this;
Dim ConnectionString as String = ""
Using con As New SqlConnection(ConnectionString)
Using cmd As SqlCommand = con.CreateCommand
cmd.CommandText = "SELECT 1"
con.Open
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery
End Using
End Using
There are quite some tutorials on the internet. I suggest downloading a few and playing a bit with them.

I am new to the .NET Framework and i will love to learn all its languages but i do not know if it is a good idea to actually learn the whole framework documentation.
My question is how do i get to know a framwork?

Step by step, bit by bit.
Step trough the Beginner Portal[^], and choose one of the four directions to start with.
As you build more applications, you'll encounter new controls, new problems and new possibilities. That's the moment you hit either MSDN or CodeProject. That way you get to know the library gradually.

You might want to use the Object Browser within Microsoft's Visual Studio to view the available objects and classes within the System namespaces.
Within Visual Studio, use the view menu option to open, if not listed, within the same menu click the Other Windows sub menu. If you're unsure what the classes do visit the MSDN website for details on how to implement or use.

I do not think it is necessary or advisable to learn all its languages. Select one of them, and study it thoroughly. Later on, get used to the different look of the other languages, generally it is enough to understand code written in the other languages, and to port it to your favorite language.

Buckle up for this one.
So the company i've been working for, for the last two years asked me to train someone.
Two years ago I walked in here not knowing anything about programming, I learned several languages in a few months and ive become "the best programmer they have ever had".
So now I was asked to train someone. Not just anyone though, the bosses son.
Smart kid, just lacks any motivation and has zero work ethic. He has moments of promise, and then there was yesterday.
For the past 6 months i've been attempting to teach him HTML, VB JQUERY etc. Basic "hello world" stuff.
We've been using Lynda.com to give him a more visual example etc, giving him stuff thats simple.
Yesterday I had to show him again how to Define a variable in VB (you know DIM), which wasnt the bad part.
The bad part when he asks me whats wrong with his code and I find PHP in there, and he's arguing with me about it.
No idea what to do with this one. Really seems like im at the end of my rope/patience.
Any idea's on how to feed someone the fundamentals?

Why are you wasting yours and the bosses' sons time? If he does not wants to learn, that's his decision. And yes, it's nothing else but a decision on his side - the stuff can be learnt from books, without any help for those willing.
It's no use to push a mule, it will not walk.
..tell the son he is fortunate to have you as a mentor. I would have advised the boss to put his son to work at cleaning toilets - at least it'd motivate him (in time) to learn something to make him valuable outside of the toilet. That way he'd at least be contributing as opposed to being a burden

I'm having trouble choosing a class to do the following job, any help appreciated.
Thus far I've been trying to make it work via List(Of custom structure), the generic SortedList(Of Single, Of Color) and SortedList() to little avail, both directly and sub-classing them.
1. Map numbers (from 0 to 1) to colours
2. The mappings would be discrete, e.g. you could have just two, or 500 (or more)
3. Either a class function or an external one would translate an input (0 < = x <= 1) into a color, either interpolated between two anchors or the color matching the next lowest or next highest anchor.
4. There must always be an anchor at 0 and another at 1 with n inbetween.
Initially I used a List(Of custom structure) and had a separate class that used a bunch of static functions to create said Lists but then decided I wanted to wrap the whole thing up in its own class, probably inlcuding that look-up function (plu various overloads). That's when I started having headaches.
Having a class with a List(Of T) member did the job pretty well until I realised that it would help if it was sorted and also ensured no duplicate anchors (and that there was always a 0 and a 1). So a SortedList seemed a muh better place to start and then I got quite stuck picking the best base class.
I'm pretty sure I need to subclass here since otherwise I can see myself having to implement ICollection, IList, IDictionary, I?Comparable, IEquatable etc. not my idea of fun!
Thanks,
Mike
