sorry, i meant a service that would return raw results, not a formatted HTML document
for example, there is a Yahoo server that returns a comma-delimited text file for stock quotes based on a given format
is that possible for a dictionary-type service?
an XML web service would be better and cleaner, but i'd settle for a simple service

Okay, i know how to change the actual program's icon... I was just wondeing if it would be possible to chage/remove the MFC logo in the top lefthand corner of my program... It doesn't really matter if I can't I just would like to know if its possible. I should mention that I made an SDI program instead of a dialog/MDI program.
Thanks for any help/enlightenment,

By default for an MFC application, the icon in the top left hand corner is the 16x16 icon - not the 32x32 icon, in the icon resource IDR_MAINFRAME.

Add a new icon to your application and give its ID same as the icon having mfc bitmap after deleting that default icon.

I am using CComboBox::SetDropDownWidth to make my strings fit into the dropdown listbox. Works fine! However, when I place my combo near the right edge of a screen, it extends beyond the edge, and so the vertical scrollbar is not accessible. I would like to right align the dropdown listbox with the combo, so that the vertical scrollbar would be placed directly under the dropdown arrow and the listbox stretched to the left if any string was wider than it.
How could it be achieved?

What EXtended Styles have you tried ?
WS_EX_RTLREADING |WS_EX_RIGHT | WS_EX_LEFTSCROLLBAR

Well, I can see/use the scrollbar this way, but what I need is to move the whole listbox to the left to make the strings fully visible.

Hi there,
I try to make a plug-in system for a multiple SDI application : this application should loads FormViews from separate DLLs. Formviews are rightly showed but the problem stopping me is that I don't have any controls on my view, only a small white and unwanted dialog whose class is "Shell Embedding" (according to SpyXX) !
Furthermore, if I try to bind controls to member variables, my application crash with the following message : "Error: no data exchange control with ID 0x????"
Obviously, I missed something, does anybody could give my some hints about these errors ?
Technically : the application browse a folder hoping to found .dll. Each DLL have an exported function called Init (based on "Using a Doc/View exported from a dynamically loaded DLL (SDI)" By Dave Loeser) who fill up a CRuntimeClass pointer with the RUNTIME_CLASS(CMyFormView) contained in the DLL.
Those pointers are used to register the view through the following code :
pDocTemplate = new CSDIDocTemplate
(
IDR_MAINFRAME,
RUNTIME_CLASS(CSdiMultiDoc),
RUNTIME_CLASS(CMainFrame), // main SDI frame window
lpFormView
);
AddDocTemplate(pDocTemplate);
Thank you, it's very important for me

I am making a back-up utlility in MFC, which asks for the directory to be archived, and ftp'ed away.
winExec("rar.exe .. blah blah command line arugements",);
that all works fine. The rar.exe is a command line winrar file that is a seperate program, which I don't have the source for. Reading up, it returns 0 when the process is complete, 1 when the process has an input error, and 2 for a file disk error. How can I "catch" this return value, so that the appropriate action ( the ftp process) can be done in my C++ coding afterwards, automatically

Create via CreateProcess, wait for the process
handle to become signalled and then use
GetExitCodeProcess

Make sure that you have the latest version of the Platform SDK, and that _WIN32_WINNT is defined as >= 0x0500 (only supported on W2K onwards). And it's actually defined in winuser.h, not wingdi.h

I downloaded from microsoft.com all 350 MB of Platform SDK...
and installed it.
And I searched in all of the ...\MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO\VC98 files.
(and sub folders), and didnt find the _WIN32_WINNT define.
......
STILL... The problem with SetLayeredWindowAttributes, Not Solved.
Please HELP.!.!.!

Interesting... It is definately present in my version of the SDK (the one that came with VS.NET).
You could try calling it dynamically by doing a LoadLibrary() on user32.dll, then GetProcAddress() to find the function.

I would like to enter strings in an Edit box. The strings will be used to create a list for my List or Combo Box. I have tried InsertString, AddString,
ect. but only generate an assertion error. Does anyone have a very simple working example I could look at?

We need more info. Show us the code that's not working. It's not clear what you need and what you already have done. Is it a List or Combo box, or both?

Alvaro

Hello, i posted a message a while back about a problem with posting some data to a server. I have now built in a buffer in my application to receive server response and the error i get back from my proxy is a 404 Not found and then the url i tried to post to.
Additionally, a 404 Not found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
thats what i get back when i try to post data. But i KNOW the url exists cause i'm just cloning the data from the time i posted a message in my browser, the header is EXACTLY the same. I've tried everything, tried to send the lines seperately, tried GET as well as POST, checked the proxy, etc. But it says it cant find the URL... this is just VERY STRANGE to me, especially since i even typed the entire header in the Telnet program, i just connected to my proxy using the windows telnet program and typed in the header, and THAT worked fine. So why doesnt my program work????????????? I'm really stuck here and if anyone could explain to me why its not working, or has any ideas or suggestions they would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you puts twice \r\n at the end of the request ?
Did you try all the combinaisons possible for the url ?
If I'm not wrong, you musn't request http://www.mysite.com/index.htm but /index.htm or index.htm instead.
HTH !
