Windows 8 does seem to perform pretty well in a VMs.

I use MacOS as primary OS, and Windows on a VM (for Visual Studio, SQL Server and IE). This machine is "just" a 2 Duo Core, so "just" 2 "single" cores.
After I make a new VM with Windows 8, MacOS had been freed 700MB of it's RAM, so my old W7 VM with 1GB of RAM now is a W8 with 1,4GB of RAM, and MacOS has more 300MB free. W8 is more agile on a VM than W7 (also with 1GB).
And now, weeks later, I'm using it in a SSD HD exclusively for windows VM as a secondary MacBook Pro HD. Sweeeet!

That sounds like "I have Windows 8 on one of my machines" to me.

Yes, you have right. I don't think about this option before

Although I have tested windows 8 on a few development boxes and I see the OS is solid and boots much faster than windows 7, when the trial period ends I will not be upgrading any system until there is a way to fully turn Aero back on. I really hate the square windows no transparency look of the years past that has been implemented. I also do not like the split personality between the ModernUI and the desktop UI. Although as a desktop user I do not see any use of the ModernUI on a high end system with a large monitor. I do certainly not want my applications to use the entire display so I would prefer a way to totally disable the ModernUI and just go with the windows 7 desktop experience instead of the windows 2000 experience + ModernUI.

it does, but its "NOT ONLY" the engine what matters. Had it been so, people would be driving just an engine rather than a gorgeous car

Then in my opinion everyone would all be using linux since it has a superior engine.

I might change my mind if Stardock released a new WindowBlinds with Win7 theme and runs on Win8.
The latest version of Start8 looks good tho.
shame MS added RemoteFX into Enterprise edition and not Pro. Otherwise I would be using Windows 8 right now.

How about "Having a pirated copy of W7, and can't upgrade?"
Edit: Okay, it was a joke. Still want to downvote me? Fine. Go ahead.

I got my copy of Windows 8 today at http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/ for 15 euros. I had a legit version of Seven bought in early October, but it seems that anyway the installation process trusts your words and it checks nothing.

...I'll be able to go directly to Windows 9. Approximately every other Windows version seems to be sh*t, and I have no great faith in Windows 8. On the other hand, I really like Windows 7, so I see no reason to not use that for as long as possible.
I'm also kinda tired of switching software versions all the friggin' time. In my opinion, versions change far too often. It would be ok if it was basically the same software with better features only, but Microsoft seems intent on reinventing the software every time they change versions as well...

Let all the early adopters take the pain!
Or more likely, skip it and wait for Whine SP1 as I did with Vista and Wait SP1.

It's like an inevitable thing, I'm sure I will someday.
All my computer related stuff happen on a Windows machine (either workstation or server) so someday I will cetainlly have a Windows 8 machine.
BUT!
I don't feel as compelled to as I was with Windows 7.
Time will tell... :p

Exactly how I feel.
After XP I just couldn't go to Vista, every time I used it it smashed my confidence by being flaky, noticeably slower, common functions obfuscated and hard to find. But, I 'wanted' an up-to-date OS all the same.
Then Win7 was launched and I got it on launch, 64-Bit Pro version. I love it, it 'just works', and you don't notice it.
With Win 8 - I just don't feel the compulsion to move. What I have works fine and Win8 looks like something suited to a tablet or smartphone that's been shoe-horned onto a desktop. I'll be skipping this one I expect (just like I did with Vista).
Can't wait for Win9!!

Does anyone happen to know when the first alpha release is scheduled for Win9? :-P

I know a couple of people that actually disable Aero to the Classic Theme (and me deppending on the machine I have to work on I might also do it) but a good looking OS is always better.
