Typed discussions are so much harder than face to face, and accidental insults, or perceived insults where none was intended are a constant hazard.
Just sign off the thread with a note say you meant no offence and let it go.

Yes, I had this same observation when I first started using the internet about twenty years ago, and care in this regard has been ingrained into my online behavior ever since. But whether it's online or off, we all have to learn not to be constantly paranoid that others are trying to offend us. The commenter, though, seems rather "special" in that he hasn't adapted as such.
You'll notice that I did try to explain that I meant no harm from the start of the commenter's ugly digressions. But it seems like he only picks up on individual words that look offensive to him without understanding the context or meaning. So my effort to be friendly and understanding just made the situation worse. For future reference, though, I like your suggestion to keep my response to this sort of personality as short as possible, as in a single one-clause sentence that lacks any even mildly difficult vocabulary.

Yes, I saw. Some simply want to look for offence where none was intended.

Sean has killed his article. I do find myself wondering if he copied it from somewhere and that's why he couldn't change the fonts...don't know obviously, or I would have called plagiarism straight off.

I left it because I'm reticent to report members when I can't see what they've written. Possibly the wrong thing to do

I had did a post as the following url and there are 2 replies really disturbing me. I had even not willing to use codeproject a mush from that time.
I was just posting about an open source project and 2 users marked my message as bad it resulted in -32 points in my score.

Not much. Your message link does not go anywhere and the points are meaningless.

Okay.... and? Still not much you can do about it and the points still do not mean anything.
Probably someone thought you was posting a SPAM message. Personally, I would have probably found a more appropriate forum to post your advertisement rather than posting in the Lounge.
