Hello,
I have been assigned the task of using the microsoft AntiXss library to encode all of the input text controls on several asp .net web pages. I was told to use the EncodeHTML method to assign/retreve values to (textboxes, listboxes, etc.) After inspecting the EncodeHTML it looks like it is only used with streaming html sent out the Request object and not used for accessing control text in the code behind. Can someone explain to me if you can access asp textboxes .text values in the code behind, without using the Request object, like is usually the norm. Also, A decission has been made to do away with all query strings of the application and store everything in session. Is this the best way to go because not only are query strings used in the code behind but also in the javascript. If there are security issues with the query strings could not the AntiXss library help here instead of for asp form textboxes? Any advise and examples of using the AntiXSS with standard asp controls would be great!
Thanks,
Steve Holdorf

hi there - I am not sure where to put this post, please advise if there is a better area?
We want to create a server side tool that allow users to upload batches of documents (or specify share drives) to convert from Office 2003 (binary) to Office 2010 (XML).
Is is possible to create a web service or server side tool that can process / convert a Microsoft Office document from binary to XML using Office Automation methods - e.g. ConvertAccessProject ? (noting http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257757)
Failing the above, I envision falling back to a shell execution of the OMPM (batch conversion tool - OFC.exe) with dynamic manipulation of the INI file...

Where are the URLs and how do you expect to test if they are valid?

I have a MVC 4 application (with jQuery Mobile) working and I'm trying to build some Administrative pages which will be implemented as WebForms. The problem I am having is that I can't seem to get the Html.ActionLink to send the user to those admin pages.
The admin pages reside in a /AdminUtils folder off the root of the application.
Based on some searching, I've added the following to my Global.asax.vb
Sub Application_Start()
AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas()
WebApiConfig.Register(GlobalConfiguration.Configuration)
FilterConfig.RegisterGlobalFilters(GlobalFilters.Filters)
RouteConfig.RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes)
BundleConfig.RegisterBundles(BundleTable.Bundles)
End Sub
Sub RegisterRoutes(Routes As RouteCollection)
Routes.IgnoreRoute("AdminUtils/{*pathInfo}")
Routes.MapPageRoute("ReportRoute", "AdminUtils/{someparam}", "~/AdminUtils/{someparam}.aspx")
End Sub
In my Index.vbhtml page I have the following:
@Html.ActionLink("Admin Link", "AdminUtils", New With {.Page = "WebForm1.aspx"})
However, if I hover over the link, it indicates that it wants to route to:
http://localhost:63163/Home/AdminUtils?Page=WebForm1.aspx
If I use a standard hyperlink,
<a href="~/AdminUtils/WebForm1.aspx" title="Form 1">Webform1 Here </a>
the browser is directed to the page and WebForm1.aspx displays as normal.
I'm thinking it has something to do with the Routing, but I just don't know what to do.
Thank you in advance for you help.

I've not done this work directly, but the actionlink feels wrong, as it is accessing a separate, non-MVC app. I'd stick with the plain hyperlink when referring out.
David Mujica wrote: outes.MapPageRoute("ReportRoute", "AdminUtils/{someparam}", "~/AdminUtils/{someparam}.aspx")
Again this feels wrong: you are producing a route map to an external, non-MVC application. It also contradicts the ignore route (which I think is right).
Again you have to mod this all through my inexperience at having embedded non-MVC apps......

As Keith said, use the href.
Spent some time working on this in an app myself. And after some digging, it seems ActionLink is for routing to internal links within your MVC application.
You can create an actionlink that uses a controller to redirect the user, but that seems like a lot of work to get a simple action done.
public ActionResult MyController(){
return Redirect("http//www.mysite.com");
}

With MVC, the Html.ActionLink() does not link to a view. It creates a link to a controller action.
If it's just a static link I would just put it as part of the html.

Hey i have tried all the ways to get a page converted into other language you can say i tried to globalize the page.. but i cant able to convert so can any help me in detail process of that page culture conversion....
Im just an ameture programmer in the asp.net field?

What exactly you did. In which language to trying to display the page? could you please elaborate?

Globalisation/Localisation is not an automatic process! You need someone to provide the translated texts, and then it is upto you to include them in your software.
Just by changing CurrentCulture/CurrentUICulture, no translation will happen.

Google translate will help you find suitable words and/or alternatives, if you still want to develop this by yourself.

Q. Hey man! have you sorted out the finite soup machine?
A. Why yes, it's celery or tomato.

That's only useful for getting a first impression of how things will look like - it may be useful when you do not know the space required in other languages and their respective character sets. But for anything more professional: those automated translation tools are crap!

Based on the OP, I think we can both agree that he isn't going to get very far on his own.

default session time out is 20 minute. if some one interact with web page just before session time out which has been idle for long time then what will happen. session time out will receed i mean increase or session will time out after 20 minute.

Keith Barrow explained it very well in your fist post.
Where is the problem you are having with this explanation?

Hi Team,
I am developing an ASP.Net application with PPT Export functionality, I have used COM Interop to implement Export to PPT Functionality and able complete and deployed in server machine. Inorder to run the application I made DCOM configuration changes in server and application running properly.
But after some time I got issues and PPT Export functionality not working and I went to Event Viewer and found that issue with COM as below.
As I have issue with COM Interop in server I would like implement PPT Export functionality using OpenXml. I have downloaded OpenXml SDK and started implementing. I used OpenXML Productivity tool to generate code and pasted in Visual Studio inorder to create new template.
But in my PPT we have Charts and Tables I need to updated those data based on data came from database.
Can you please suggest an easy way to update data of Charts and Tables based on dynamic data from database.
I have attached sample PPT for your reference.

This seems pretty easy using routes,
but i am stuck with another issue
now what client wants is if client puts this in url
www.SomeSIte.com/Home/Products
it should change to
www.SomeSIte.com/US/Products
and so on there are other url's that needs to be changed.
Now with routes we can define it but how to change the URL displayed?
