Well, most jobs are quite boring and you get paid more when you get promoted. For us it's the other way round. The job is fascinating and you get more than your boss if you're any good.

I actually play the role of CEO properly you won't have time to follow no developer ass to teach him how to do anything...
After a year, technology will just by-pass you and have to admit that you know much more MS Word and Powerpoint key shortcuts that on any other application

CTO is nice but it's too disconnected from the field and too much political for me.
Being an top notch architect is for what I'm working everyday.
I like to be on top of technology, design and implement solutions.
As years go by, we start designing more and implementing less but still we need to know a lot about everything.

I believe in this rule...
It may not be always right, or may not always be this "aggressive" but it certainly have its roots on reality.
It's like the other saying: Those who cannot do, teach.
Like I said, it's not always true but I think we all have at least a couple of examples from our school times.
