I actually brought this one up last year. I went through and red-flagged all the answers that were just a one-liner with a link to his site.

I often risk my life spamming -- by posting "thanks" or other stupid responses. I like my account ("Member since Monday, April 4, 2005 (8 years, 2 months)" + some articles associated with it). Could somebody give me a good reason why posting a "thank you" or "it worked" is against netiqette? It is quite informative (gives other users information that an answer is a solution -- besides "answered" status) and polite for a person who provided the answer (personally I appreciate when someone writes it). I do my best when writing, I check words in a dictionary etc. but at the same time I do write a "thank you".
Greetings - Jacek

A very quick look (just the first page) doesn't show any "thanks" or "it worked" messages - are you referring to a specific question / answer? If so, could you point us in the right direction?

I was referring to a netiquette, which I have read recently, but now I cannot find it. So, maybe I was wrong and it is not considered as spam? That would be good.

I'd call it politeness. It tells someone that they helped, and you are grateful.
If it was against netiquette (and I've not seen that anywhere), then I'd ignore it. It's not like SHOUTING at people you want to help you, or telling them they are elephanting sunshines!
Carry on, I say!

Against netiqette? It's not against netiqette:
Good netiquette involves:
1. Thanking, acknowledging, and supporting people: People can’t see you nod, smile or frown as you read their messages. If they get no acknowledgement, they may feel ignored and be discouraged from contributing further. Why not send a short reply to keep the conversation going? This can make a big difference in a small group setting like a tutor-group forum. (But bear in mind that in a large, busy forum too many messages like this could be a nuisance.)

Take a look to the 3rd sentence of my signature (I have not changed it since... I can't remember)
So no, being polite doesn't go against any rule, actually just the opposite, there are not so many people that thanks the help has been given.
But...
Just one advice. If you have to thank people helping you in the Q/A Section... then better don't post a solution to say "Thanks" or "It worked", that could be reported by users as "not a solution".
If you just use the widget "Have a comment or question?" below each post, then noone will tell you anything against it. On the other hand, the person who helped you will receive a notification of your thankfull feedback, and probably will be glad to help you in future questions.

Jacek Gajek wrote: why posting a "thank you" or "it worked" is against netiqette?
It is not against netiquette at all. There is a policy at one particular site that "thank yous" are discouraged because they feel that a number of "thanks" or "it works" simply clutters the site with "noise". But that is just a site policy and nothing against netiquette at all.

This gentleman is calling CHill60 and myself out (for reporting his previous answers as spam), but I still think he is a spammer. Not to mention he resurrects old questions to spread his message.
I am not going to link directly to his profile, but if you agree with me, you know what to do.

I agree with you but... on the other hand, there are more Solutions on both questions with comercial solutions links. So if the one is to be reported as spam, the others should be as well, at least the Platinum members in both give other options too.
The point of resurrecting very old threads (even some that are already solve) just to add a "Solution" (that not always is such) is quite common and can't be avoid so easy.

Yes, the questions in this category are often littered with spam answers. A while ago I identified a whole bunch of accounts advertising the same product, but I got distracted before I could post a full report here. The scariest thing is how they have managed to boost one of the accounts to platinum Author level.
I will post that one of these days if those accounts are still alive.

And rightly so. I am kind of surprised he did not call me out too. I seem to recall de-spamifying a couple of his spam. And yes, I just invented "de-spamifying".

I am not really sure. I just scanned through the other solutions without committing to memory since they were older. Nelek pointed out above that there were other spam solutions to these questions - I just can't say if all of them were spam.
We used to be able to see deleted answers, but I remember Chris changed that within the last 12 months. However, I think Protectors (and Admins) can still see them. Maybe one of them can verify if all the solutions deserved to be removed.
