Ouch. That's a brutal story. Sadly, all too common. It definitely makes me want to point out Marc's solution[^] more and more (although if you install after the update, you're still in the same mess).

Yes I read that one, don't know why if it was disabled why it done the update.
I dumped Win 8 after the developer preview so have no way to test what may have happened.
The only other thing I can think of is those updates that change your settings to what they want them to be and don't bother to tell you.
Like when my UAC kept getting set back to enabled.(for my own protection of course)

and as long as they can count on the marketers being stupid enough to never realize advertising to the too poor to buy anything group could only result in increased theft losses.

Well, it can be seen as a good way to get cheap education to the poorer population; and educated people (in general) will be in better position to make better decision concerning water usage (better agricultural ways), medicine and health decision (usage of condom), ...

I don't think the statement about there being no difference in digital cables is correct. You'd think digital is either it works or it doesn't, but it's not that simple. The transmission usually has errors, which are fixed using some error correction. The better the cable quality, the less errors, and the bigger chance the signal arrives exactly like it was sent. Sometimes on digital TV you also see these blocky images when there's a bad transmission. Other than that you probably don't notice the difference though.

Im not sure I completely agree. Sure, bad cables would lead to errors, but I don't see any issues with my current Belkin HDMI cable (about $10 on Amazon), and definitely can't see myself paying for Monster cables (up to $50). Ditto most "reasonable" quality network cables. I think that some companies (Monster being the most famous) prey on people by using the most extreme edge cases (and prices).

Microsoft first unveiled its Project Spark game maker project back at E3 with a promise of a launch later this year.
