Word isn't included in Windows, the RTF-control is simply a Windows-control - not something .NET specific. It displays RTF relative nicely, but it's not a WYSIWYG-editor. If it was as good as Words' editor-implementation, then it'd be quite easy to write a competitor.

Not as good a solution as the web-viewer, since it'd result in small pictures on high-res screens and large pictures in low-res screens.

Thanks, My sanity is restored. I was thinking about a custom control that would scroll through a huge JPG file, While it might of allowed for a more stylish look, the thought of updating the image as the app was enhanced just seemed like a real PIA. Not to mention how large the JPG file would be.
Resolved by using HTML solution

In our final project we are going to build a software which will help to employee management system , we want to add a additional feature here which will be finger print scanner . We want to build the main project in c# platform , it will be very helpful if anyone can show us the pathway of how we should advance.
|
|
|
|
|
Given how little information you have put in there, it's almost impossible to say. Do you have any code written? What will the scanner hook into? What platform is the application? Web? Desktop?
|
|
|
|
|
scanner will hook into the finger print of a person , which would be used as a password system. the project is still in the planing phase , so there isn't any code still . and the project would be web based.
|
|
|
|
|
So have you considered where the fingerprint scanner will be located? In other words, if it's a web based system, how is the scanner going to be hooked up? Is it all browser based? What happens if there's no fingerprint scanner available for the platform the user is trying to log in on (i.e., a tablet)?
|
|
|
|
|
The name of our project is "Automated Employee Management System"- we would like to make our project for the purpose of using in a certain company . where employee would log in the system using fingerprint scanner .It can be hooked up with the pc , actually we are building the software project for our educational purpose as graduation final project . So , when we will submit the project we will use a scanner . Now we aren't considering other option without scanner . But normal password login system will be also provided here . Fingerprint will be used only for special purpose.
|
|
|
|
|
The best you can hope for then is to use something like an ActiveX control to manage the actual fingerprint recognition. Bear in mind that the browser side does not allow direct access to peripherals, so the ActiveX functionality will have to provide this backbone. This also limits the browsers that you are going to be able to run the application on.

thanks for the help.Will try to follow accordingly. And i will post the update about the project time-wise.And further query will be posted later.

Good luck with your project. I hope it all works out for you.

Hi,
Working with ActiveX object is always pain as it will work fine with IE browser. Have you consider to build Desktop based application instead of Web based ?
As your application will be internal, so i can't see any reason to go for web based application. Is there any specific reason for choosing web based application development ?
Thanks

actually we were told to do something like that, a project which will be database based , data will be accessible & manageable . We thought it would be good to move through web based project, means website .

It's more complicated to build than the idea initially sounds; an employee management-system can be relatively simple, and logging in is simple, and fingerprint-scanners are simple, right? The combination of those, isn't - especially if you want it webbased.
First, we log in on a machine that needs to have the hardware present. That means that your software may be webbased, it will not act nor behave as a webbased app since it needs local hardware. You can't log in using your own desktop if that does not have a fingerprint-scanning device.
Now, let's dismiss that problem for a second; what if the fingerprint-scanner breaks down? What if your supplier says "not in stock for two weeks"? Will there be an alternative way to log in? If there's an alternative, how would you encourage the annoying user to not use the alternative as his primary logon method?
You might want to reconsider your choice and look for something more fun to do as a final

Thus presumably a school project.

You would need to find a finger print scanner. Since it is a school project price is probably the key part of this unless the school can provide one.
Before buying it or attempting to use it you must understand how it interfaces with hardware/software. If you are lucky it will probably be USB. If you are really lucky there might already be a C# API for it.
The difficulty of this depends on exactly what form the API takes. If there is a C# API then it is probably something that you can achieve within 6 months (along with the rest of your system.) If not then you might want to skip even trying this. But if you still want to try and it isn't C# then you will FIRST need to learn the specifics of what the API is so you can determine the best way to attempt to integrate it with C#.

This seems like a simple problem but it's a bit hard to explain, but let's try.
Three tables Reservation => Rooms => Services (basically a customer can reserve multiple rooms and request multiple services per room)
Now we have 3 forms:
New/Edit Reservation (Contact details, Overview of rooms) => Only this form saves to the database
New/Edit Rooms (Overview of services)
New/Edit Services
The user makes a new reservation (fills in his contact details), Then adds a room and a service.
And then the user wants to edit the service, here is how i excepted it to go:
function Edit_Service_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
frmServices frm = new frmServices();
Service srv = (Service)Grid.GetSelectedRow();
frm.Service = srv;
if (frm.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK)
{
srv = frm.Service;
}
}
This doesn't work because changes to frm.Service will also directly apply to the "srv" variable (Because it's a reference, right?).
So the question is, how can i pass a child object from a linq to SQL class to another form but let users be able to cancel changes?
The simplest thing to mind seems for frm.Service not to be a reference. Or restore the DataContext to an earlier state.
But i can't find any ways to do this.
Any ideas or questions are very welcome!
Thanks

Sacha Barber produced an article on the Unit Of Work pattern that showed how to do this with the Entity Framework. It shouldn't be too taxing to convert it into L2S. Article[^]

Hello, am about to create a word document using C#.net, what I've done is using Interop.Word using this code :
object oMissing = System.Reflection.Missing.Value;
object oEndOfDoc = "\\endofdoc"; /* \endofdoc is a predefined bookmark */
//Start Word and create a new document.
Word._Application oWord;
Word._Document oDoc;
oWord = new Word.Application();
oWord.Visible = true;
oDoc = oWord.Documents.Add(ref oMissing, ref oMissing,
ref oMissing, ref oMissing);
//Insert a paragraph at the beginning of the document.
Word.Paragraph oPara1;
oPara1 = oDoc.Content.Paragraphs.Add(ref oMissing);
oPara1.Range.Text = "Heading 1";
oPara1.Range.Font.Bold = 1;
oPara1.Format.SpaceAfter = 24; //24 pt spacing after paragraph.
oPara1.Range.InsertParagraphAfter();
//Insert a paragraph at the end of the document.
Word.Paragraph oPara2;
object oRng = oDoc.Bookmarks.get_Item(ref oEndOfDoc).Range;
oPara2 = oDoc.Content.Paragraphs.Add(ref oRng);
oPara2.Range.Text = "Heading 2";
oPara2.Format.SpaceAfter = 6;
oPara2.Range.InsertParagraphAfter();
Everything is working fine except that my text is in Arabic and setting oPara1.Range.Font.Bold = 1; is not working also changing the font name
Can you please figure out why am in this trouble and how can I solve it
