Allowing anyone to upload files opens a legal can of worms we're not fully comfortable in opening just yet. We can moderate articles fairly easily, but moderating file uploads for several hundred thousand message postings can get hairy. What happens if someone posts kiddy porn or a virus or whatever? We will be held responsible for it.
How about uploading for at least Gold members? (ignore the fact, that my status is gold ) IMHO those members are known to be responsible
AFAIK currently only supporters and editors are allowed to upload files, aren't they?

Would you be held responsable if you did not allow anonmous file postings? Your profile of me has enough information to identify me, No? If I posted crap couldn't you turn me in?

The trick is policing it. It's a huge, huge drain on resources (and in fact we simply don't have the resources to do it).

Any way that the mail notification URLs could be changed to open in a new Window?
Particularly want to avoid Hotmails frame? Could a bit of Javascript be used?
Thanks,
Davy

You mean like Shift+click'ing on the link, or right clicking and selecting 'open in new window'?

That actually doesn't work with Hotmail. They hijack the entire URL and force you to view it from within their frame.
Ex:
They turn this
<br />
http:
into this
<br />
http:

Unfortunately Hotmail is looking for URLs then replacing the link's HREF with their own link which does the frames.
Your own way around is to copy the text of the link and paste that into the address bar of a new window.

1. Install Google Toolbar
2. Highlight URL and Rclick googlesearch
3. Google opens finding nothing but offers clickable link
4. Arrive at Code project with no frames and (therefore) logged in!!

Cool
Luckily I'm not stuck with hotmail for most things (just the stuff where I fear giving my e-mail will result in spam)

Have to be careful selecting it.
Go from right to left then up slightly to catch the CR from the line above though not the ':' - otherwise the context menu will be wrong

Better solution: install The Proxomitron (http://www.proxomitron.org/[^]) with the extended filter set. This adds a "new window" link to all links where you want to have it (among all gazillions of other features). Also kills tracking URLs, etc.

Preface: I love statistics (of course someone don't)
In the MSDN articles online there is a small histogram that shows the distribution of the votes. This is not applicable to CP, because the interface is different, but a link to a small pop-up window could be suitable the current layout, for the server/bandwidth load, and hopefully for you.
Just an image to show my idea.

Unfortunately this wont work on CP because the votes have different weigth. So you may have 10 votes of 5 and 2 of 1, yet the rating is 1.5 (approximation). How you graph that?

You colour parts of the bars to show bronzer/silver/gold/platinum proportions?

Makes it pretty useless as a graph then. Nice colors and bars but no value behind it. It does no longer relate anyhow to the rating value.
It would however, have a value to show who (bronze, silver, ...) votes how.

Can you change the message board's search, so I don't have to go to codeguru

Huh??? You'd move to another site just because the message board search isn't to your liking???? Ok. That makes no sense to me... Ok... CP does have a large community and it leads to some excellent discussions and the message boards and full of valuable information but isn't the sheer amount of articles reason enough to stay at CP???
Just hit me if I'm off the mark here.
