I think a few anonymous wankers have their whatever in a bunch as they'll be a little exposed for their behaviour [^]in the future.
And Google gets happy as now they can rave about how many more people have signed up.
I'm not going off on this, but I would like to point out that one of the bigger promoters of G+ at Google used to be at a certain company known in Redmond for occasionally making moderately bad decisions.

I can understand why they're trying to integrate all their services into one account, and why they're trying to combat anonymity, but there are legitimate reasons for not being integrated. What if I wanted to use my personal Google+ account at the same time I use my "Artist" Youtube account? Can't be done, it always pissed me off when I wanted to listen to favourite music videos on my secondary YT acc, but then logging into gmail would log me out of YT and log me in as the YT version of my gmail.
In any case, not that I'm against it, but them fighting anonymity is a lost cause, what's to stop a user from creating a fake G+ profile?

10 years ago having to manage 9000 passwords and needing to regularly change them because of a compromise somewhere wasn't on most people's radar. Federated ID is an improvement on the status quo; the main problem with it is in it's implementation. In most cases sites they only offer FaceBook, Twitter, and maybe Google as OpenID providers. Blogging sites will often let you use an ID from most of the other major blogging services; but I don't think I've ever seen LiveJournal/Blogger/Wordpress login offered anywhere else. The only site I'm aware of that lets you use an arbitrary openID provider is StackExchange.

Nature abhors a vacuum (I never really understood that since the universe is basically all vacuum except for a grain here or there, but I digress), in that fine, if the Microsoft giant is shifting its weight in its slumbering repose, then some little flea will come along and take advantage of the space the giant has vacated, and that flea will grow and eventually bite the giant.

After a sleepy week, Comet ISON is suddenly coming alive. Several amateur astronomers and at least one professional astronomers are reporting today that the comet has brightened at least a full magnitude overnight. Two days ago it glowed at around magnitude 7.5 and was visible weakly in 10×50 binoculars from a dark sky. Now it’s surged to around magnitude 6 – naked eye limit – and continues to brighten. ISON’s appearance has radically changed too. "By being seldom seen, I could not stir, but like a comet I was wonder'd at."

I think getting whealt sometimes does not mean making perfect products. In fact MS has made money from their own faults, as well as their big hits.
This way of doing things sometimes implies evil eating some smart competitors, but I think it has the seeds of their own ending, once the initial creative force faded.
I can remenber the compuserve issue. When internet started, compuserve saw it as a threat, and fougth against, instead of becoming the biggest USA ISP.
Similary, MS could have had the most important linux (or BSD) distribution, but Google and Apple took his place.
