It also used to happen under Windows 7 when it was first released. To solve it, I would kill the offending svchost instance. I believe it had something to do with windows update.

I've been wondering if it extended beyond XP. Thanks for that data point.

Here’s the only thing that’s completely clear: The search for a Microsoft CEO has become a bit of a circus over the last few weeks. "Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job"

Clippy: I see that you are trying to select a new CEO...

Maybe they should just make Clippy the CEO? He seemed a most well organized (and helpful) fellow.

Single Responsibility (SRP), Open/Close, Liskov’s Substitution, Interface Segregation, and Dependency Inversion. Five agile principles that should guide you every time you write code. Just in case you slept through the pronouncement that this was The Only Way&tm; to code like I did

Is there anyone left who hasn't come across SOLID by now?
(Its also incorrect on at least one point "it is one of the five SOLID agile principles" - SOLID is not agile (although good Agile projects should reflect SOLID principles, so should good waterfall or other projects). Totally orthogonal principles. Agile is methodology. SOLID is design principles.

Reports from multiple sources indicate that a large number of people who believe they have enrolled in a health care plan through the Federal or state exchanges have not, in fact, enrolled.
I guess trying to plug the site's gaping back-end holes with duct tape and super glue didn't do the trick.

That's because they don't have McGyver on their team!

15.9 million students in 167 countries participated in the Hour of Code campaign last week, and districts in 5 states added CS classes to their high school curriculum as part of CS Ed Week.
Girls outcoded boys, too. Girl power.

Well I have found that women talk more than men, on average, to get the same thing achieved so it follows they would write more code as well.

Tsk, tsk. Only one line of code written today? I'm afraid you're going to have to come in on the weekend.
And where are the tests?

I wrote that this weekend; I tweaked the heck out of it to ensure it would be as fast as possible -- no unnecessary characters to slow it down. And it's portable too; I compiled it on five different compilers on a variety of operating systems.
You don't have to test every single line of code, you know.

The open source community vilified Oracle for its alleged mismanagement of MySQL, but the facts suggest that might be a bum rap. "Whatever you think is supposed to happen, I’m telling you, the exact reverse opposite of that is gonna happen, okay?"

I’m pleased to announce that everyone in the Visual Studio organization is using Roslyn in their daily work now. In fact, the daily builds of VS are now compiled using Roslyn, all as part of a process that we refer to in the biz as “dogfooding.” Roslyn continues it's march to taking over
